The fact is, or at least seems to be, that the top award was granted to Ukraine mainly for political reasons.
 
Jamala’s victory at Eurovision is an attempt to prevent the Neo-Stalinism in a modern wrap.
The song is the occasion to draw attention to the problems of the Crimean Tatar people in the Russian-occupied Crimea, and it is a victory not only for Ukraine but also for the Tatar people, and global media should now pay attention to the legal situation of the Tatars in Crimea, and also it is pleased to realize that Ukraine has not forgotten by Europe.
The creeping Neo-Stalinism and pacifist-indifference that is what is dangerous for the future of Europe.

And…what are you going to do about it? Clearly the song and the sentiments behind it resonated with people across Europe who voted for the song , it picked up the most votes by the viewing public by a very convincing margin and won. End of story.

Ukraine didn’t pick up the most votes by the viewing public - Russia did and were favourite to win.

Fair enough. But when combined with the jury votes they won, and did Australia come 2nd overall?

In the last three years he sure could have done so in the Middle East, but didn’t. And killing Christians in Ukraine and driving Catholic religious out of Crimea is hardly “protecting Christians”.
 
I was thinking that myself, especially if Ireland had sung it in the middle of the troubles, in the 70’s - I’m sure it would have been ‘allowed’, NOT! :rolleyes:

Yes, I believe Australia were second overall - and if being cynical, politically neutral as far as EU/judges’ votes were concerned.

As Russia has nothing to do with Ukraine, how can it be accused of killing ‘Christians’ there, extremely strange. :confused:

Why would Putin ‘drive out’ the Catholics from Crimea, what’s the point, what’s the added-value? I note any ‘stories’ related to such allegations were MSM’ed immediately after Crimea returned to Russia, and nothing since. I sincerely doubt anything at all has happened and it will be exactly the same as it was before.
 
Was anyone else happily surprised that Germany gave its 12 points to Israel?
Could this be a show of goodwill because the world just celebrated Holocaust Memorial Day?
My thought, anyhow.
 
To be honest I’ve never known it not to be considered a ‘joke’ by most people.
 
I guess when it comes down to it, it’s hard to take pop music (and pop artists) seriously. Even when it purports to have a serious message. Imagine if Justin Bieber wrote a song about some international controversy (assuming he writes his own songs).
 
We are happy that we are not forgotten and evaluated properly. Jamala has an excellent voice, she has something from Amy Winehouse in her voice))
She even looks little bit like her.
She is indeed - incredibly talented.
