And this is the problem I have. What you just said.
They PUT God in there but he really isn’t there…

You can’t have one (good meaning holy husband and family without the other).

As I said before, I was laughing in the beginning so hard I almost choked. It does have its moments. I really like the secretary. She was a great supporting actress. My kind of humor.

BUT I still say rent it.
 
I don’t understand why renting it is different from seeing it in a theater is the issue is supporting or not supporting the film.
 
Curious,
Renting it would cost us about $3.50/we spent $25.00+ for our crew yesterday. Plus, how it does in the box office (theatre) affects more production of this type of movie.
I suggest Nancy Drew or the Rat movie in my opinion.

I really believe you have completely missied the point of the movie. Recall how “Evan” said a prayer and he was NOT a praying man. Without telling points in the movie that can spoil things, his prayer is answered and the movie takes off from that prayer. It is ultimately about “Evan’s” personal conflict with the world and his onw weaknesses as a husband and father and he gets/learns a lot more then he realized when he said that simple prayer.

Does it have “some” religious backdrops, yes of course it does. Does that make it a religious movie? No, not at all. The movie is about Evan and his struggle to become a better husband and father. I wish more movies like this were made because the state of fatherhood, manhood, and husbandhood is very, very poor condition right now.

Exactly, so you are simply telling Hollywood that making family friendly movies is not going to be profitiable.

You can have family friendly movie without making GOD as the backdrop. You can discuss MORALS and being good father/mother/child without putting GOD in and then in the background. But that is even a stretch for this movie.
If it weren’t for Him and his mercy and kindness we would be GONE. Poof.
So yes, I am saying, that I do not want more of THESE types of movies.

Then please, do not complain when movies are anti-family, because you are making your bed, you must now lie in it. 🙂

If you are not willing to support a family friendly movie, then you have no business complaing about movies not being family friendly.
 
I will not stop supporting and not supporting what I know is right and wrong. I will not stop voicing my concerns and views. Will not. Won’t do it.
It is not too much to ask to either do it right, or choose another “background” theme.

Yep, I see your point. It is terrible to show a film where:
  • The man is called to be a strong husband.
  • The man is called to be a strong father to his three sons.
  • The man is called to an ethical in his professional work.
  • The man is called to honest even to a point of losing his profession.
  • The man is called to be obedient to God in the face of much turmoil.
  • The man is called to consider how we impact God’s creation.
  • The man is called to put an end to some horrible corruption, that he was at one time involveed in and must disclose to be cleansed.
  • The man’s sons at first think of him as a loser, yet learn to love and gasp respect their father.
  • The man’s wife at first thinks he has lost his mind, yet after some time she comes to know that he is a changed man and that she gasp should support her husband.
  • Through it all the man’s struggle is guided by a firm, but loving God, who does not let Evan walk away from his prayer or from his calling.
  • The man’s final victory is given by God, not him and he knows the victory belongs to God.
  • In the end the man has changed the world by ending a serious corruption and by changing the entire path that his family was on to one that is far more responsible and loving–in all ways.
Yep, tear up the film, it is a horrible example for adults and kids alike. I get your point. 🙂 Let’s bring on another “Die Hard,” or btter yet let’s have a remake of the “The Da Vinci Code,” those are much better exmaples for our kids.

Costing less, of course, is not the same as supporting or not supporting a movie. Also, what you pay in each instance is not directly reflective of what the studio gets. DVD revenue is also taken into account when assessing the profitability of a movie.
 
I think this movie looks like fun!
I enjoy Carrell’s humor (I’m a HUGE Office fan)… and I’m looking forward to seeing an entertaining film.

If I want a lesson on faith I’ll go to Mass… the movies are for fun, IMO!

Never watched Die Hard sir. And there will be another Dumb Vinci Code…happening right now Demons and Angels or something like it. And I suppose I will personally be resonsible for bringing about this **** because I feel if you are going to deal with God, do it reverently and right. That is the least we could do.

You do help bring about those sorts of movies because you expect perfection in film. Never gonna happen. You ignored the list of truly positive traits I listed for “Evan” because you have deemed the film was not reverent enough…well I submit under your strict guidelines it is nearly impossible to make you happy.

However, for the rest of us mortals, we do not deman perfection.

I was not trying to attack you, if it seemed I was, then I apologize. I was merely expressing my views. I think you are being ridiculously tough on this family friendly film and I have no clue why. Even if the film treats less reverently then you would like, it still holds a ton of great messages that I have no doubt the Church would approve of.

I encourage you to speak up. This place is called Catholic Answers. In fact, Christ Himself tells His disciples: “Be perfect, as your father in Heaven is perfect.” That is the direction we should be going in.

God and His Word should not be trivialized.
