Some are. It’s hardly a flood, and balancing the conversion of the dozen or so cited prominent convertees are the numbers of Catholics who leave the faith for another. Karl Keating, in his book, “Catholicism and Fundamentalism” has noted and explained the large number of conversions of Catholics to fundamentalist denominations.
I was disappointed that the news article didn’t provide any numbers which would give us a understanding of how large the movement is.
My sense is that the Church (in the US) loses more cradle Catholics than it gains via conversion. A couple years ago a survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life showed 10.1% of persons raised Catholic leave for other faiths. pewforum.org/Faith-in-Flux%283%29.aspx
