The thread is about assurance of salvation; this assurance is founded upon the promises of Christ - it owes nothing to human strength, but is rebuke to all human pride, even the most subtle. How can that which is clean contrary to the unrighteousness that remains in the believer, be said to favour it ?
The alternative seems to be, that we should trust in ourselves for salvation, & not in the promises of Christ - & how does that differ, ultimately, from atheism

? We have no righteousness of our own to being to God, no anything at all.** So if we are saved at all, we need a whole salvation, by a whole Christ, from beginning to end, in every respect: so what is this about trusting Him for some of our salvation, but not for all of it?** He is not trustworthy on & off, like a badly-working boiler, but in all things, without any reserve: what we have to do, is to be conformed to Him Who is all this. And that too is totally His work, by His indwelling Spirit. That we don’t believe His promises, is our sin & our fault - it is no reason not to believe Him. ##
Assurance is not faith, but it is a fruit of faith.
As for your question - ask it of St. Paul:
2Ti 1:11 For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher,
2Ti 1:12 and therefore I suffer as I do.
But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.
