This impulse I see that you can’t read it unless it carries a Catholic label is scary. The CSM is recoginized as one of the great newspapers of the world by most.

For the record I doubt if she did read the CSM. This opinion piece was picked up by the Drudge Report and was the most linked to story on the net on the day of its release. More likely she saw an anti-Protestant headline and just ran with the story.
So I gather you just “assume” things about people’s lives when in fact I did read it on the CSM. So for the record, I did read it. Never assume.

So what was the CSMs headline story that day? What other stories where covered? I assume you read the online edition or just the link to the editorial which was all over the net.

I was specifically told to read a specific story and I did. What’s it to you anyway?

Just pointing out to the man questioning your pureness that you didn’t read the CSM. You read a link because the CSM editor gave an opinion piece an anti evangelic headline.

No, I didn’t read a link. You have NO RIGHT telling people where and how they get their information. Really, what a nerve.

That is rather like saying that you can’t tell if water is poisoned until after you’ve drunk it and see if it kills you. When there is a sign by the lake that says, “Caution! Poison Do Not Drink!” I would suggest that you not drink it.
You are confusing apples and oranges I think. If I happen upon a sign that looks like it’s from the local city, and it tells me the water is not drinkable, I would be foolish to drink. I can assume the city has no agenda, no particular set of beliefs. It is objective in that sense.

To say the same of a church which most definitely has an agenda (every one does), and then to simply not read anything not approved, is to be mice following the pied piper. You have a brain for a reason.

If one lived in a communist country and were not allowed to read anything from a democratic society, one would no doubt think communism just fine. I can guarantee you that the RCC takes no position that is faithful must refrain from any and all things non-Catholic.

You may call it refraining from polution, but this is a extremely dangerous method, one that can oh so easily lead to disaster. We are a thinking species. We must use what God has given us or we are doomed.

I can see that you came from a fairly fundamentalist approach to things before becoming RC. You must understand that the RCC is not fundamentalist itself, although I suspect one could assume so by its statements of dogmatic belief. The Church teaches no such thing that only the Magisterium teaches truth or that there may not be other truth besides it.

Again, if you are unwilling to look around you, but only wish to adhere without question to what is fed you, you are not acting humanly but in a robotic fashion which is decidedly not RC, I would submit.

Actually, a friend saw it and told me to read it. I do not read anything other than the truths of the Catholic faith. And just because they truly are a cult, doesn’t make them any less a liar.
Now let me get this straight. You start a thread based on the CSM report, and you claim that evangelicals will be gone within a decade based upon the article. YOU ARE NOW SAYING THEY ARE A CULT AND LIARS?

Do you realize you have just gutted your entire point? Is this some joke?

This is truly appallingly scary. What kind of RC sect is this? I’ve never heard of such stuff. This is not what the RCC teaches. It’s akin to a repressive regime. Who taught people that the Church tells them to not read anything not RC?

I agree, the CSM is a well respected paper, has been for years. While many might not agree with it’s bent on some issues, nobody would call it a cult or claim they would be harmed by reading it. This is insane.

You are so quick to fight aren’t you. As I said DOESN’T MAKE THEM ANY LESS LIARS! And YES they are a cult.

you guys better stay on topic rather than discussing the CSM or the thread will be closed.

what difference does it make if someone read the original article or a link? i read a link in a newsletter i receive with links to other articles of interest for current events.

i was surprised to read
the predicition that evangelicals will be extinct within ten years.

a lot can happen within ten years.

Who taught people that the Church tells them to not read anything not RC?
The Church does not tell us not to read anything not Catholic. I choose not to read anything that I do not trust to be orthodox Catholic. It is not enough that material be Catholic, it must be orthodox Catholic, i.e. in agreement with the Magisterium.

Do you not realiize the Catholic Church is the largest evangelical church in the world? We are a megachurch and will still be evangelizing in 10 years. People like Osteen are not evangelizing but spreading the ‘name it claim it’ gospel. And he has claimed a lot of it. I hope the camel he rides can fit through the eye of the needle.

It might be better to just refrain now OTCA, you are digging the hole even deeper. Yes that is exactly what you said, do you really not understand it’s meaning? It means THEY ARE STILL LIARS. You as I said, have gutted your own thread. Since they are both liars and a cult, there is no reason to place an efficacy on anything they print. Yet, somehow you did. Why is that?

Truth, if indeed it is truth can withstand all that can be said against it. But of course, one can never test that premise if one doesn’t open one’s mind to other opinions. Blessings Marsha, I am sorry you have chosen to close your mind, but you are a free person.

As an aside, I find your position ironic. I assume that you left the SDA’s because you concluded that they had not been teaching you the truth? That makes it odd that you would then give again to another faith tradition the power to do the same? One would think that you would be wary of that and would be careful to read broadly to make sure you were not being led astray again. You need not comment of course, I’m not attempting to argue with you. I just find your choice the opposite of what one might expect.

One needs to be careful. There is always the danger of being SOOOOOOO open minded that one’s brain falls out.

I was lead to the Catholic Church by the Bible, not by any man’s writings. The Church has teaching authority, the Magisterium, something no Protestant sect has. The Church also has the Real Physical Presence of Jesus Christ, again something no Protestant sect has. Why would I abandoned Jesus and His Magisterium to listen to men who have neither?

You are getting a bit snarky now Marsha, and that really is unnecessary.

I agree, being too openminded is dangerous. Yet you said you read NOTHING not approved by ORTHODOX Catholicism. That’s extraordinarily narrow as you well know, and can alert you to no error ever.

I have no quarrel that you were led to the RCC through the bible. It’s an excellent place to start or stay as one is moved. We aren’t called “sects” by the way. Your denomination of Christianity has the Magisterium, but you should clearly understand that other Non RC churches don’t by choice, finding it the reason Rome has fallen into error.

Much as it may annoy you, you believe that no other Christian church has the real presence, but again that is merely what you have been taught by your religious leaders, and they do have a bit of a axe to grind on the issue. Many of us in the Protestant world also claim the real presence of Jesus, and certainly if Jesus wishes to reside in the bread and wine of our church, you would not complain would you?

Catholicism is not a denomination.

Non-Catholic denominations couldn’t have the Magisterium, even if they chose to because the Teaching Authority is a divine gift given to the One Church.
