So go be Anglican.

People don’t want to change, they want the Church to change.

I can’t believe some of the responses I have read here from women being unclean to women being the reason that there are fewer priests or other men involved in the workings of the Church and in the Mass.

This goes beyond sexist to misogynistic. The “idea” that women were unclean finds its roots in ignorance regarding the reproduction cyle and women’s menstrual periods when they were thought to be unclean. It seems that people are blinded to the zeitgeist that created these myths.

Maybe we need to look to the men who fail to step up to the plate and serve the Church as the women have done. But to blame the women for the men’s failures? Give me a break! Perhaps the women should gently guide the men back to service in the Church since they are too intimidated to do it on their own if a woman is around? At the very least, place responsiblity for failure on those who have failed versus those who have answered and serve.

Excuse me, but I have much more respect for women and men than to think that they are incapable of following the Holy Spirit into the service of the church (vocation or layman) simply because the other is there. Perhaps a little more respect for the Church and those who serve (male AND female) would draw more to service versus chase them away?

This is simply untrue. No one has said anything about women being unclean. Period. Double check for yourself. A page search doesn’t take that long.

I agree that women should not be priests, or Eucharistic ministers, or altar servers, or fill any role in the Catholic church other than submissive to Christ.

We were brought up that sex is dirty and females are too dirty to handle the body of Christ or perform sacraments. St Paul wrote that women are not equal to men in any way. They are to be as slaves to their masters. St Paul told women to remain silent in church.

I don’t think priests should be allowed to marry or be sexual either though. I read that in the early days of the church, the men were somehow taught that they didn’t need sex to be powerful.

If this so-called woman priest is also a lesbian, well, there’s the problem. She needs to be taken out behind the woodshed!

Oops! Guess women are “dirty” versus “unclean” Sorry it is such a clear differnece! I should have caught it!

Perhaps Katrina might wish to clarify, but I took her post as serious but misguided, and the replies pointed the misguidedness out, to which she was quite appreciative.

She (E.E.) did the right thing. She left the Church. I’ve been suggesting this for years.

She is not a priest, priestess, minister, or even Catholic in good standing in the Roman Catholic Church (due to her public actions). That’s fine. She and her followers can create an entity out of whole cloth. It has nothing to do with the RCC. Nothing.

I don’t think her biggest issue is authority. (And I believe, as do many conservative priests, that lay women should have more legitimate authority in the church, as in voices taken seriously, but not as in ‘playing priest’ by performing sanctuary and liturgical roles.) I think her big issue, and those of the rest of her like-minded associates, is gender. That’s her hang-up. Gender.

Yes, I’m a woman, and a heterosexual woman, but that is not nearly as central to my spiritual identity as being a child of God. That is what I have in common with every other child of God – gay or straight, male or female (um, read St. Paul on these similar words, Elizabeth English), clergy or lay. And as a member of the Church Militant my identity as a Catholic Christian way supercedes my identity as a straight woman.

All of these self-created “womanpriests” have a gender hang-up, major. I know dozens of them. They isolate themselves with other women in some kind of seige mentality against men, which I find very sad – not to mention very '70s.

Straight men and gay men are my brothers, not my enemies. That’s what Christ commanded of me. Some of these women act as if they read a different Gospel. But it is a very good thing that she has left, and hopefully many others will join her, instead of festering from within the RCC. There are no valid sacraments which they dispense.

The saddest thing to me is that they equate power with sanctity – with closeness to God. (Another way they have failed to read the gospels closely.)

Well, we don’t have that problem in our archdiocese. We had a great Arcbishop Burke who relied on the Holy Spirit and called many of our institutions back to true Teachings of the Church. Our seminary has doubled in size. All the seminarians are required to learn the TLM. One of seminarians is praying to have his first mass at the Oratory of St Francis de Sales, which is TLM only.
hi qui,

you are blessed. i wish we had one Church in this part of the world like that. may be it would help others to see the CC Faith again. our CC Faith down here in the South is quick failing away. somehow they got the idea that protestants worship is much better than the Catholic worship.

i just had a conversation with father, but he tried to cut me short. he did not want to hear. but i heard that there are others around complaining as well.

i just gotta an info from the Parish office which affirms that Salvation is by Grace and Faith and not by goods works of any individuals. i though the CC teaches it is by both.

nice talking to you.

That’s how I read it. She said this is how she was taught, not what she believed. There were several other negative experiences she had.

No one here has said or believes that women are unclean, but I see where the misunderstanding came in.

I said I was brought up to believe that women (and sex in general) were dirty. We had a teacher in sixth grade who said this a lot, and the boys would snicker, and the girls would feel a horrible shame.

Shame is a feeling of guilt, not for what you have done, but for who you are.

It seems the other girls were able to get past this and move on in life, while I never did.

We had the same ideas taught to us at home.

The sister who said this would talk about the hands of the priest being clean, and not touching the host, etc. She also said, “women are not as high in God’s eyes as men, and that’s why they can’t be ordained.” I still remember how quiet the classroom was after that comment, and that has been about 50 years ago!

This has been very hard to overcome, and it creeps back into my life from time to time, and I know it is too late to “fix”.

However, the people on this thread have been so kind and understanding in their responses to me.

As for sarcasm, yes, that is a great coping mechanism!

I feel that I have a lot of ways to glorify God, in my parish, and in my life. I don’t think anyone’s gifts should be denied because of gender. I have no desire to be a priest, and I believe it should be reserved for men, but not for the reasons I was taught fifty years ago.

Thank you all for what are obviously prayerful answers.

^ There was a lot of bad teaching 50 years ago, and you are undoubtedly now mature enough to understand that.
🙂
(No sarcasm!) 🙂

And the teaching today is exponentially worse…man, you know who I really feel for in this story, is all the goats she has following her around who doesn’t know any better…thinking they are receiving real sacraments (except for Baptism, which can still be valid if the proper form is used)…all the while, it would be just as useful for them to go to a pagan church since they are not getting any sacramental benefit from the services they attend at this Church…woe to those fake women-bishops and women priest…it is especially bad to lead others to hell.

At a methodist church? do they have women priests?

people has taking over the Church of God and wants to do as they please. first they changed the Liturgy because it wasnt interesting to them, they want something that pleases the people. the Bishops fell right in to their traps. now, we are in turmoil. but we know who win, dont we?

“Without truth, charity ends up in sentimentalism. Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled arbitrarily. It is the fatal risk of love in a culture without truth. It falls prey to the emotions and contingent opinions of the individuals, an abused and distorted word, to the point of signifying the contrary.” BXVI**
They don’t have a preisthood, No protestant religion does!

How sad that in her pride and arrogance she has led people astray. She will have to answer for their souls!

To parishioners in her small Sacramento congregation, Elizabeth English is their Catholic priest: She presides over their Sunday Mass, leads them during Communion and baptizes their babies.
Just taking a quick look at the folks in that picture, I’m guessing there aren’t too many babies frequenting that particular church.

I mentioned this on another thread…what would a “woman priest” be referred to? What do they ask you call them? Certainly not “Father” and since “Mother” is reserved for nuns such as Mother Teresa and Mother Angelica, what do these heterodox, fake priestesses wish to be called?

The particular fake priest in this news story is called ‘mother’ apparently.

.

What a joke…people who blatantly disregard the Church in search of their own glory, driven by their own pride are not worthy to claim the title of “Mother” and share that same title with women like Mother Teresa…they are not worthy to even loosen the strap on her sandles

Women cannot be priests! When are people going to get this through their heads?? 🤷 The Church has ruled definitively on this issue and it has ruled that women simply cannot, under any circumstances, be priests! I, as a woman, am happy to be Catholic and not be a priest. I wish I could hold some sort of more official position in the Church such as being a nun or something but I can’t. (I have mental disorders that prevents this to those of you who don’t know.) But I am happy with my life as it is. Never would I desire to be a priest because I know that even if I were “ordained” I would not be able to consecrate the Eucharist or perform any of the other sacraments validly.
