I recently started looking at some of these, wondering if they were any good. Have you used one?

Interestingly, I did a freebie preliminary search on one of them and one of the first pictures to pop up was a woman at my parish to whom I’ve been attracted for a while now. A sign? 😃

What could it hurt? At the very least you should be able to make some new catholic friends, yeah?

God bless,
Joshua

Yup, I signed up on CatholicMatch and Ave Maria Singles, for several years…only to end up meeting my fiancé here on the CAF. Go figure. 😛

Hope you’re joking about the sign. 😛 I mean, there is always the possibility but interpreting everything as a sign could easily make one superstitious. 😉 By the way, write to that woman. 😉

And yeah, I’ve used Catholic dating sites for a while. One isn’t really Catholic any more but keeps the endorsement (it used to be practically a ministry). I’ve browsed thousands of profiles, posted dozens of pictures and written quite a lot of text. I’m as single as ever. On the other hand, for some people it works.

I suppose the primary problem with me is generally how hard it is for me to find a girl I develop this kind of interest in that is returned and there are no red flags. Hasn’t happened yet in fact. I just have a more difficult time in general. Other people seem to have success sooner or later, it does seem to work.

Word of advice, have your eyes open, try to notice things, make sense of what you see etc. And don’t fall for professional pictures! The right angle and lighting makes a difference. If you want to form a reliable impression of what someone looks like, you generally need a couple of pictures (or a non-professional, simple, holiday picture that isn’t overly staged and hasn’t been tampered with).

Yeah. Ministries and hobby gatherings are generally a better place since things happen more naturally, there’s less pressure and there’s more connection than just being single and wanting to end it. 😉

yep - CatholicMatch (then St. Raphael) is where I met my bride. Interestingly, I also ran across the profile of a friend from church. We both acknowledged each other’s presence but neither of us saw any indication we should pursue a relationship. 😉

I have. I live in a very small community. Found two people from my area. One of them is crazy (no joke), the other is a very nice guy but we absolutely are not right for each other.

I ended up deleting my profile because of the crazy guy.

aka the dreaded “myspace angles”

Yeah, I was joking…but I was happy to see her there. 🙂

it that is not a clear signal I don’t know what is

My sister used one in St Louis, her main complaint was most of the men were married:eek:.

I once asked God for help in deciding whether to phone a certain specific lady on a certain specific day (which was a complicated situation in which a life of misery was one of the possible outcomes in the long run) and my mobile phone died beyond repair along with the number list becoming irrecoverable. And I didn’t have her number written down anywhere, let alone memorised. I still wouldn’t dare claim it was a sign. 😉

yes…been on Catholic match for 8 years…not too many guys MY AGE in my direct area…at least not that match the criteria of accepting all the teachings.

My hubs and I lived on opposite coasts when we met on AMS. A lot of ppl are reluctant to do long-distance, but it certainly can be worth it, especially when the local ‘pool’ is thin.

Prayers!

:rotfl: I did similar once (twice, actually, with the same girl), with similar results.

There were a decent number of people in my area - I still wound up 400 miles away.

I may have to make sure I can afford plenty of air fare. Last time I put my hands on some statistical data from the UN and made an assessment of how many people might actually be compatible, I ended up with a manageable number, if you know what I mean.

I wouldn’t know from personal experience, but from what I’ve heard that’s par for the course on CatholicMatch. It seems like Ave Maria is the only decent one.

I signed up for one and got discouraged when I saw that an ex-boyfriend was also on there, but in his profile he was saying things about himself that were not true. 😦 And there were very few men in my area (Manhattan).
