Could somobdy explain this to me,it almost makes me feel as jesus is denying his divinity?
Exactly he denied his divinity.

LilyM:
I think Jesus is in fact STATING his divinity but being cautious about it for fear of being prosecuted for blasphemy.

Instead he leaves it to those around him to put two and two together … ‘you call me good, and no-one is good but God, therefore …’
Do not kidding us and your people, do you think this can be convinced even for kids

Warning from Jesus in the bible for the lip service Christianity, the lip service following.

Matthew 15:
7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8 " ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’"

Evidence that Jesus is not GOD and should not be worshipped.

Hit the road Jack and never come back no more,no more no more. What you say?

I fail to see where you gey that it says Jesus is not God, He just says people are claiming to follow/love Him with their words not their hearts.

gurrato alaien:
Exactly he denied his divinity.
Gurrato, then why does he say ‘you shall not tempt the Lord your God’ to Satan - who is tempting Jesus himself, unless Jesus is God? Why does he say ‘the father and I are one’ and ‘he who sees me sees the father’? why does he claim power to forgive sins knowing full well, as does the crowd around him, that forgiveness is an attribute only of God? Why does he do things like use the name ‘I AM’ - God’s name - about himself - the crowd again were aware of what he was doing, they were ready to stone him for what they believed to be his blasphemy.

There is more than enough evidence in the Bible that Jesus did in fact claim divinity and divine attributes, as has been argued in many other threads. Your OP quote I have seen before, I don’t know if it was in the context of Jesus’ divinity but it is far from being directly relevant…

… next!!!

Please read and analyze:
9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men

Jesus prophesied that people will worship him in vain instead worship God alone and their teachings are taught by men.
Referring to the men changing Gods word “the bible”
This is agreeing with what Islam say about the bible that it has been corrupted my men.

Peace.
You have to use the whole verse to get the full depth of what he was talking about, that is how sentences work, they go together to make the whole picture. To disect one verse from the three others or whatever takes away what they entire thing was about. “They worship me in vain”, well from the rest of it you can obviously see He is talking about their words not heart are worshipping Him, thus the love is in vain. Rules taught by man, anyone with a good understanding of history can tell you that the Jewish leaders were enforcing rules and what not that were beyond Biblical/Torah laws set for them, thus they followed the rules of man.

gurrato alaien:
Because Jesus himself say that.

Matthew 19:16 Jesus said “Why call me good, there is none good but One, that is GOD”?

Peace.
I understand this quote to mean something like what LilyM said.

They call Jesus good, yet only God is good. I think it’s kind of like a mini-test. You know that only God is good, so why do you call me good? Simple answer, He is God.

Hmmm…let’s see what exactly Jesus was talking about:

Matt 15:1-11 -

Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal.” He said to them in reply, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘Whoever curses father or mother shall die.’ But you say, ‘Whoever says to father or mother, “Any support you might have had from me is dedicated to God,” need not honor his father.’ You have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition. Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you when he said: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.’” He summoned the crowd and said to them, “Hear and understand. It is not what enters one’s mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one.”

Sorry…I just don’t see where Christ is denying His divinity! He’s speaking mainly of those who say they follow God, but do not fully subscribe to it by focusing on actions of man, not actions of the heart.

Looking where a single verse lies in context to the entire passage is essential in understanding what the author is trying to say. They did teach you this in school, didn’t they??

LRThunder:
How is that evidence? It appears he’s attacking those who’s actions differ from their words: they claim to worship God in words, but not in deeds.
Yeah, I didn’t get it either.

You do have proof that man has changed the Bible and corrupted it, don’t you? I believe you are set in your beliefs, and nothing we can say or prove is going to change that, so I won’t waste my time trying. Peace

gurrato alaien:
You can understand that if you believe that Jesus was a prophet and through his teachings he will guide you to the God.
Except he wasn’t nor is he a prophet; he is the Son of God…he is God.

These verses refer to the Divinity of Jesus:

Jn 1;1 - the Word was God
Jn 1:14-15 - glory of Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth
Jn 8:19 - if you knew me, you would know my Father
Jn 8:58-59 - I assure you, before Abraham was, I AM
Jn 10:30-33 - the Father and I are one (see Ex 3:14, 20:7; Lev 19:12, 24:14-16)
Jn 10:38 - the Father is in me and I am in the Father
Jn 12:45 - whosoever sees me sees the one who sent me
Jn 14:8-12 - whoever had seen has seen the Father
Jn 20:28 - Jesus accepts Thomas’s “my Lord and my God”
Col 2:9 - in him dwells whole fullness of deity bodily
Acts 20:28 - church of God he acquired with his blood
Eph 1:7 - in him we have redemption by his blood
1Jn 1:7 - blood of his Son Jesus cleanses from all sin

Once again someone else trying to tell Catholics what they believe in. Next

If you want to be reassured that Jesus DID INDEED claim to be God, simply read John Chapter 10 in your Bible. (it’s not too long–you’ll breeze through it in a few minutes)

Jesus sprinkles those claims throughout the Book of John, but Chapter 10 is really the “Hey, everyone, I am God” chapter. 😃

Why do people still bother replying to all this troll’s posts?
Because lurkers might be watching and learning. It think it’s fine because each time he posts his specious hot air, it makes his world-view look goofier and goofier. As they say, give 'em enough rope and they will hang themselves.

That’s true, but when the arguments start to get ridiculous beyond a certain point I start to think “Is it possible anyone with a brain would be in danger of falling for that sort of thing?”

gurrato alaien:
Because Jesus himself say that.

Matthew 19:16 Jesus said “Why call me good, there is none good but One, that is GOD”?

You’re taking things out of context.

16 11 12 Now someone approached him and said, “Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?” 17 He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. 13 If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

A person approached Jesus and he didn’t know that Jesus is God… yet. He only knew and heard that Jesus had done and preached wondrous things, things only God can do. When Jesus mentioned ‘good’, he meant exactly that only God is good so why say Jesus is good when, to that man knowledge, Jesus is not God, but only some great Teacher.

It’s like Jesus is saying, ‘Why call me good. You don’t know I’m God and only God is good’.

During Jesus ministry, He didn’t truly reveal who he was, at least to the people, because the time has not come. That’s why He later asked the Apostles ‘…but who do you say that I am’ and the Apostles didn’t exactly know who He is except for Peter.

Hebrews 1

1In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
5For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”? Or again,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”? 6And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
"Let all God’s angels worship him." 7In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels winds,
his servants flames of fire.” 8But about the Son he says,
"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.

wow. thats an amazing passage. God telling the angels to worship someone else.
