They both did pretty poorly. Shows that grades <> success. A lesson for most parents.

I agree. These two men aren’t intellectuals by anyone’s standards. It seems to me that the thing that counts most of all in politics is one’s ambition, not one’s brain.

That and a lot of serotonin.

…so let’s see. what have we learned from this message… both were not the brightest lights in the box of bulbs…

…i know somewhere there is supposed to be a spin that it’s ok that GW was dumb as a bag of hammers because Kerry was too…?

…now, I feel better about this president…sheese!

You know, I know a few ‘book smart’ people that are near genius. And that doesn’t mean I’d want them in charge of anything. Being book smart, and being a leader are two different things.

I had heard this even during the campaign however not the exact grade point. I am sure the MSM knew it but would not want to leak it because they were plugging for Kerry. Most of us that went to school know that grades aren’t everything. We all probably know someone that is gifted in math or science that is not good socially (the geek). However until our educational system figures out how to test all areas of knowledge I think we need to understand that many are gifted in areas that aren’t tested. Also there are many brilliant people that can’t be schooled due to social factors- they refuse to go to school or quit school. Or there are many smart people that put their social life first and they don’t do as well as they could. Does it mean they aren’t smart. Not really, but they don’t get the best grades. How many self made millionaires do we have in this country that never went to college? I am guessing that there are many.

The news of this is fun for those of us that like Bush and have had to listen to the elite MSM put him down intellectually. Of course now they will begin to put down Kerry too. NOT!

And Woodrow Wilson had a PhD, so obviously he was the best presidential material we’ve ever had!

What would be the point of it? We all knew Bush lacked brains, now we know he shared that trait with Kerry. But, the election is over and neither is going to be a presidential candidate again so both can be relegated to the dustbin of history.

After looking at those two pictures I cant believe it was Bush that was called a neanderthal!!

I can’t see this is a good news story. What possible information can we take from this that will affect anything? It is gossip and serves no real purpose.

Actually neither of them lack brains. I don’t agree with your assesment of either of them. Just because they did not excell grade wise in their college work it doesn’t mean they aren’t smart. They were underachievers at that point in their lives. That is all that says.

What speaks volumes is all that they went on to do with their lives.

Some of us knew that Kerry wasn’t too strong prior to the news story. 😃

Actually, studies show that the B- to C students are the most likely to own businesses and fully participate in the American dream.

There is a theory that the same thing that distracts people in school can actually make them superior in certain jobs. A person that is distracted by a social life and earns poor grades may be the best sales person or marketing person definitely because people come before books. There are many famous people that would not want their grades published.

The point is that the President in being open about his record had to suffer the calls of being called dumb while at the same time Senator Kerry enjoyed being lauded as an intellectual though refusing to release his transcripts that might have indicated otherwise.

Come on guys…who really cares? It is kind of childish, isn’t it? It sounds like, ‘my kid is smarter than yours’ or ‘my kid is better than yours’ mentality…

It is enough to make someone cry!!!

It’s not about who is smarter than the other. It’s about the fact that during the campaign Senator Kerry was portrayed consistently as a “50-pound head” and refused to release information about himself that would run counter to that belief.

In truth, grades don’t matter to me.

Agreed.

It seems more an issue of honesty than one of intelligence.

Absolutely. Poor grades may mean a student is not capable of doing the work or that he simply does not put in the time. My first year of college was horrible. I didn’t study or apply myself. My gpa was in the 2.5 neighborhood. After that I had a goal to get a job in a particular field that required good grades. For the next three years I had 4.0 in all but one term taking l8 hours of credits and working part time. I was no smarter the second, third and fourth year but I worked at it. I suspect both Bush and Kerry were pretty social party boy types and often their grades are not the best. That Kerry passed the bar and Bush got an MBA from an Ivy League school meant that both of them were smart enough to do the work, they just didn’t want to early on.

I DO think it’s interesting that Kerry was always seen as more intelligent but I think it was much more of his Boston brahmin accent and the way President Bush sort of mangles his words. He doesn’t sound as smart as he is. Kerry OTOH is no more of a brilliant mind but comes off as an intellectual. It just shows how wrong perceptions can be.
