I think you are mistaking what exactly doctrine is.

Doctrine is not in error. The lack of adherence to it causes problems.

It is God’s church.
If God is in charge of God’s church, then it will be just as free of error as God.
Simply being God’s Church is not a real reason. As mentioned before, the Apostles were constantly correcting God’s Church. Why? Because they got it wrong on occasion.

The Apostle Paul said it this way, “let no man think he stands, lest he fall.” All men, both in the Church and out, are sinners needing a savior. The Pope needs a savior just as much as the janitor who works in the local Church. All the cardinals are sinners, Billy Graham is a sinner, TD Jakes is a sinner, mother angelica is a sinner. All of them need Christ’ atonement from his cross, constantly.

??? The Apostles WERE God’s church, not correcting it, but rather discussing and discerning truth among themselves. As Jesus said “who hears you hears Me”.

Note that the very first Council, where the Apostles met in Jerusalem in Acts 15, did not end with a continuance of divided opinion but with everyone agreeing - and with Peter!

All men, including our Popes, needed and need a Saviour, true. But that same Saviour promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against the Church founded on Peter. If that Church officially teaches error, then the gates of Hell have indeed prevailed. If He could inspire mere sinful mortals to inerrantly write scripture then why not also to teach infallibly?

By the way, Our Lord was not speaking in Greek but in Aramaic when He called Peter the rock - Kepha - which in Aramaic is not gendered or distinguished as petra and petros are. And in Greek you tend to use “lithos” for small rocks, not “petros” by the way.
