Hi, guys. My aunt Susan came to me yesterday afternoon and asked me to ask ya’ll (scince I have always talked highly of ya’ll) about something she was handed something at her church (she goes to a SDA church though not big into the whole thing). It was with regards to the “Extreme Jesuit Oath” (or something like that) and the section “Expostion of uncontrovered opinoin in moral theology (sp ?)” in the book The Jesuits by Father Antoine Escobar of Menoza. She told me it was a rather extreme (in a negative way though she did not tell me much of anything about it) quotes, she almost handed it out to her sabbath class but, wanted to know if these were credable or if it was pack of lies which she would have a talken to the Gentleman (whom she didn’t mention) who gave it to her (though she doesn’t agree with us she despises people who lie about other people). Could someone help us with this? Thank you (in advance) and God bless.

As far as I can tell the Jesuit Oath is a complete fabrication. You can tell her this as coming from a non-Catholic (Episcopalian) who is getting a Ph.D. in church history. It appears to be a 19th-century forgery. There’s no evidence that any Jesuit ever took it.

The Jesuits in particular intend to destroy any opposition; they take an oath which states, “I will . . . wage relentless war . . . against all heretics, Protestants, and Liberals. . . . I will hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle, and bury alive these infamous heretics; rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women, and crush their infants’ heads against the wall, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race.”

This oath is nearly identical to the “Knights of Columbus oath” that was declared a fake in 1913 by a special committee of Congress. Despite the governmental condemnation, the spurious Knights oath has been used by anti-Catholics throughout this century. (Maybe they don’t read the Congressional Record.) The Protestant has resurrected it, changing only its attribution (now it’s taken by the Jesuits) and its focus (from “Protestants and Masons” to “Protestants and Liberals”).

In other words, it’s a fake.

Montie,

Here’s the entry on the so-called Secret Instructions of the Jesuits, and the history of the fabrication, from the old Catholic Encyclopedia:

newadvent.org/cathen/10487a.htm

Every once in a while, someone will bring this forgery up. It’s pure junk, like the old stories about Jews kidnapping Christian babies; the only people who believe it are those who want to believe it. I was educated by Jesuits, and I can testify that I never saw them plotting assassinations. 😃

Well, I had a Jesuit English professor who was quite kindly.
But there was another Jesuit, a Professor in organic chemistry, who might have been a little evil. . . .

In a sense, the problem is exactly the opposite. The Jesuits used to be the strong right arm of the Church. According to Goodbye, Good Men and other sources, the Jesuit semanaries are now some of the worst homosexual “clubs,” with some of the most blatant homosexual activities occurring in them.

**That, it seems, is the general pattern in American seminaries, the exceptions being few and far between. The good news is that they are still better than religious houses, where it is easier to form exclusively gay cliques. The Jesuits are especially notorious. John Bollard, a Jesuit from 1988 to 1996 has said that at least 12 priests made sexual advances to him in that time. In sexual harassment suit which he filed against certain Jesuits of the California province he stated that he had been subjected to “unwanted verbal and physical conduct of a sexual nature” from three of his supervisors, creating such a “hostile, intimidating, and offensive environment” that he could no longer remain in the order. One of these superiors later became acting secretary of formation for the Jesuits worldwide. **

Before concluding that this is radical anti-homosexual prejudice – it isn’t – research the matter. Begin by reading Goodbye, Good Men. The former Chancellor of our Diocese, who now works for the Vatican, says the book and other reports about American Catholic seminaries are essentially true.

I went to a Jesuit college. I loved the Jesuits. I still love the Jesuits. I would have been proud to have all three of my sons become Jesuit priests.

But what they read read in the headlines and heard whispered among friends and saw on TV has made it almost impossible for them to enter the seminary. They would want to enter a holy Church with holy seminaries. They don’t want to fight off homosexual advances by the Dean of Students.

One of our family’s friends went into the seminary. In a Mass on the first day there he watched the young men in front of him playfully putting their hands into one another’s pants. The priest in charge of the group stood about 7 or 8 pews away, clearly ignoring the activity. As this went on, our friend finally complained to the priest. The priest responded by asking if our friend was sure that he was in the right place!!!

Nah. The rumors being spread by the person from the SDAs are nowhere close to the actual sad reality within the Jesuits and other orders.

I’ve read through this “oath” and I too would conclude it is a forgery. I don’t claim to be an authority, but just as a somewhat well read person the “oath” just kind of has that “anti-Catholic” smell to it. 😉

Actually I read it in an illustrated copy of The Great Controversy by Ellen Gould White (big name in the SDA church) that I picked up. It is a rather “interesting” book, with all the assinine claims that the Catholic Church is pagan with pictures to back it up. When you look at that “oath” in the context of all the other foolish logic leaps and outright misrepresentations that alone weighs against this oath.

The SDA sometime still bring up these old claims against the Catholic Church that you’d think that no logical and thinking person would believe but I guess some still swallow it. 😦

The Jesuits are a ‘usage’ (just like the Benedictine, Fransiscans, Dominicans, etc.) within the Roman Catholic Rescension of the Latin Rite in FULL communion with the Holy See.

Does anyone know where I can find a non-partisain link or something on this (you know so noone could say that it is just The Catholic Church covering their own umm…bum)? Thanks and God Bless.

Do you know where I can find the report that the special committee of Congress made? Thanks and God bless.

I don’t have a handy link to the Library of Congress, although there may be one. (It might not do any good, since Catholic detractors use the very fact that the alleged Oath appears in the Congressional Record as a trump card to show its veracity. It was actually published to show that it was bogus!)

Here are a few other resources and links:

“That the alleged oath was a fake had been proved in a number of successful suits for libel before the war, but this did not discourage its use by the Klan. State Deputy James Malone reported in 1923 that Kansas had been flooded with the Bogus Oath, especially toward the end of 1922.”
Source: kansas-kofc.org/history/chap5.html

“This fraud, like the bogus Protocols of the Elders of Zion used against the Jews, has been spread by bigots for almost half a century. It first turned up in a congressional election in 1912 in a lunatic-fringe tract mailed from Aurora, Mo. The following year, a congressional committee investigating unfair election practices condemned the oath as a fabrication. At that time, the false oath was read into the Congressional Record, a fact that present day bigots cite to lend it an air of authenticity. Ku Klux Klanners circulated it against Al Smith in 1928. It turned up again last spring during the West Virginia primary battle between Jack Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey. A scattering of clergymen have recently quoted it in sermons, and it has been printed in newsletters of Southern Baptist Churches in Rainelle, W. Va.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Knoxville, Tenn. One clergyman of the Nazarene Baptist Church, W. L. King, who quoted the oath and refused to retract when its fraud was pointed out to him, last week was charged with criminal libel in the magistrate’s court at West View, Pa.”

SDA is particularly anti-Catholic. Many anti-Catholic groups love to attack the Jesuits because the Jesuits were/are extremely well educated and more than a match for Protestant rhetoric. After getting their argumentative “butts” kicked by the Jesuits for so long, they decided that if they can’t win against a Jesuit on an intellectual level, the next best thing to do is to use the ever-popular smear campaign; portray them as fanatics or evil tools of the Vatican.
