Old news. Through the Looking Glass:

“When I use a word ,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean —neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice , “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that’s all.”

Facts are facts though. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they aren’t still facts. Evolution isn’t a new thing either. It’s been a well established scientific theory for a century and a half now.

You can’t just wish away reality bud. Your ideology doesn’t overrule reality.

I’ve seen zero evidence so far showing that evolution is incorrect and seen massive amounts of evidence showing that it literally does happen.

Our education system must be completely falling apart. Basic biology isn’t even taught anymore.

It seems you are taking my comments in the opposite way I mean them. It’s called sarcasm. Perhaps I should be quoting Humpty Dumpty…edwest211 made a very apt comment! I look forward to many more!

And to paraphrase Leslie Neilson, “Don’t call me Bud.” Erika will do nicely. Shall I call you Phiri? The reference is beyond my limited knowledge.

I was thought evolution for 6 years and read lots of material and books on the subject to say that it is true is a lie because we did not descend from a common ancestor to form humans and monkeys God created us both separate like all other animals we also did not just happen randomly like I was also told for 6 years in school and shown a video every day that we came from the Big Bang and this was a catholic school I know for a fact from reading about the writer of evolution that it is not Gods knowledge.

“I am sorry to have to inform you that I do not believe in the Bible as a divine revelation, & therefore not in Jesus Christ as the Son of God"

Charles Darwin Quote

Yet all the catholic schools in Ireland let his work be thought as a matter of fact even do it’s a theory because they don’t have the proof confusing the faith and the young!

Erm… There aren’t any monkeys in that picture. The left hand animal is an ape, not a monkey. It is large for a monkey and it does not have a tail.

You really need to learn a bit more biology I’m afraid.

al-Khwarizmi didn’t believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God, either, but we still use algebra.

Einstein was Jewish; should his work be taught? Pythagoras was a pagan; should his work be taught? The Arabic numerals were invented by Hindu Indians. Do we have to stop using them as well?

Your suggestion is ludicrously bad. You are not doing your side of this discussion any favours here.

Thanks, I feel better already. 🙂

No, he is simply including his formal credentials, as does everyone else who writes a book. Many people throughout history have invented something or posited something that lies outside their formal field of study.
Fair enough. Where I objected, however, is the point in this thread in which you used these credentials as a means to establish his expert status:
Take a look at [website] , which is run by a guy with a Ph.D. from MIT
See what I mean? You’re not only using that credential as if it establishes his credibility – you’re actually wielding it as if he has a Ph.D. in the field in which he’s teaching. Tsk tsk tsk… 😉
Let the ideas and data Brown presents be judged on their own merit.
I agree. So… quit touting him as an MIT grad and PhD, then. In the fields in which he’s talking, he’s not a PhD. 😉
By your standards, anyone who is not a formally-credentialed meteorologist should not speak about climate change (or get laughed out of the room if they do).
Apparently, your “Great Courses Plus” experience hasn’t taught you not to selectively quote and not to mischaracterize others. In fact, I’ve explicitly said that this isn’t what I’m saying:
That’s not at all what I’m claiming: what I’m claiming is that a person can’t present themselves as a credentialed authority unless he is a credentialed authority.
But hey… if your goal is simply to spin this guy as God’s gift to biology, have at it. It’s just that now, we’re on to your game… 😉
I was also told for 6 years in school and shown a video every day that we came from the Big Bang
That doesn’t prove that the theological account of creation is untrue, however.

(p.s., you know that it was a Catholic priest who came up with the theory of the Big Bang, right…?)

Darwin’s Theory is just that, a “theory.”
People get so bent out of shape by Darwin’s Theory.
I think you are making much ado about nothing.
When I was in school, Darwin’s Theory was taught in my biology class.
I am as Catholic today as I want then. 😇

People like to say that the Big Bang was a random explosion nothing is or very little is random with God so if that’s what the Big Bang theory states it is false !

People like to say that the Big Bang was a random explosion
Well, maybe there are “people” who say this, but that’s not what the theory states.

(Heck, there are people who say that the moon landings never happened or that Bigfoot exists. Does the fact that they say these things mean that they’re necessarily right?)
