EVOLUTION: what about this

The New Atheism and the current propaganda wave in favor of evolution and against Scripture, is more like 1920s Marxism than any sort of 'future.
The new atheism is a reaction against the fundamentalist Christian effort to include creation science in public school science classes, for the most part.

It’s also a reaction against the fundamentalist religious zealotry that caused the attacks on the USA on 9/11/01.

There are very good reasons to oppose fundamental religious zealots.

Um…what about the fundamental atheistic religious zealots?

Well, I have never heard of them flying airplanes into buildings.
As Barbarian points out, he doesn’t want to be associated with “Social Darwinism” however this is the fruit of evolutionary philosophy and probably the death toll from this fruit is about 80,000,000 to date when you tally from Hitler to Kim Jong-Il (North Korean laeder).

You need to understand. Most leading scientists are not rejecting God for no particular reason, but, as far as they are concerned, the evidence is not there. They have, in other words, reached a conclusion about a subject that supposedly science is incapable of studying. Yet the Catholic Church clearly teaches that the average person, scientist or whoever, can detect God by use of natural reason alone.
There you go, Ed…
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:18-20)
First Vatican Council
SESSION 2
Chapter 2 On revelation
  1. The same Holy Mother Church holds and teaches that God, the source and end of all things,
    o can be known
 with certainty from the consideration of created things,
 by the natural power of human reason : ever since the creation of the world, his invisible nature has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made.
“If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” - Jesus Christ (Matthew 15:14)

Kim Jong-Il I will grant you as an atheist. However as far as Hitler was concerned:“My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.”

-Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922
Yes, Hitler was a bad Chriatian and not typical of most Christians. Of course Kim Jong-Il, and the other well known examples, were bad atheists and not typical of most atheists.

The Argumentum ad Hitlerum is normally seen as a false argument, as is the similar Argumentum ad 9/11 to which you were responding.

There they go again with their circular reasoning!
If you won’t take biologists’ word for it then how about taking some Christians’ word for it - over 11,000 of them. See the Clergy Letter Project:We the undersigned, Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children. We believe that among God’s good gifts are human minds capable of critical thought and that the failure to fully employ this gift is a rejection of the will of our Creator. To argue that God’s loving plan of salvation for humanity precludes the full employment of the God-given faculty of reason is to attempt to limit God, an act of hubris.

In the same sense as Hitler’s final solution was the fruit of Christianity. The Nazis said it was, because they took it largely from Martin Luther’s writings about the Jews. At least they could point to a Christian leader who advocated such things. As you probably know, Darwin assailed the ideas of “social Darwinism.”

BTW, Marxist regimes specifically outlawed Darwin because they opposed social darwinism. In the Soviet Union, Darwinists were imprisoned or killed.

It is morally corrupt and sinful to attribute mass murder to Christianity or to Darwin.

I don’t take their word for it because they follow blind men. You see, I fell into the pit, but God pulled me out. So now I take God at His Word, as unanimously interpreted by the Church Fathers, and I interpret the scientific evidence in conformity with their opinion. :yup:

Well you see, if a biologist doesn’t believe in Evolution, then they are not “respectable”. I thought the point was obvious!
You seem not to understand basic logic. I never said what you falsely imputed to me above. What I said was “I can’t think of a biologist with credibility who rejects evolution.”

No, they’re not blind. These are incredible clergymen, representing hundreds of thousands of years of training and experience, and their statement of assent is based on sound science. Thank goodness the popes are not in your camp!

Pope Benedict-

“But it is also true that evolution is not a complete, scientifically proven theory.” And this statement was made in reference to Pope John Paul II’s “evolution is more than a hypothesis” statement.

One cannot achieve credibility in the community unless you accept evolution. No dissention is allowed. No money is awarded. It is self perpetuating.

And here we were all thinking it was “there was no God.” Thanks for enlightening us. 😃
Well, scientists are coming out and saying, no evidence, no God. But, Christians are constantly hearing that science can’t study God or draw conclusions about His existence or non-existence. The people being harmed are the public who see these people on TV or read their articles or listen to their interviews. The message is clear: they are intellectually satisfied that the evidence for evolution, which works all by itself, negates a role for God - who doesn’t exist anyway. The science, they say, allows them to be atheists with something other than simply saying I believe there is no God. Something which science can’t prove or demonstrate.

Peace,
Ed
