Ewtn too secular for me

personally I love Life on the Rock now that they showed our kids at WYD from the great state of Texas. yeehah
 
I LOVE ETWN Radio & TV.

Last evening I was saying the Rosary w/ Mother Angelica and the Sisters along w/ my 8 yr old grandson. We even said a prayer for Mother, as I told him about her numerous strokes.

😉
 
I’m not a fan of every EWTN program.

However, Tom Woods’ The Catholic Church: Builder of Civilization - to me - has been the most intellectually anti-secular program they have ever done.

When I had seen this thread was updated, I had hoped that the OP had answered which programs were secular, and so I read through the posts, and alas no programs were mentioned.

I believe EWTN is a great blessing to the world. God bless all those who are involved with EWTN.

I relish all of Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s homilies whenever he celebrates Mass. He never fails to inspire me and provide teachings on the scriptures that are beyond the scope of any other homilist I have listened to. Fr. Wade Menezes is also very good.

Sorry to say, I’m not that fond of Fr. Pacwa’s EWTN Live show due to the some rather dull speakers that are guests.
 
I really like EWTN, though I haven’t watched it very much. But I liked everything I’ve seen 🙂 my favourite is the Journey Home.

I caught this it was very good. Wasn’t hard to figure out why he’s a Saint.😃 I don’t remember reading the life story of not one Saint who didn’t inspire me. I pray for that kind of strength. That is certainly called Trusting in God! No mistake there.

EWTN is running a weekly special on the Saints, chosing a different one weekly. This Friday is St Padre Pio.

  4. GK chester and what ever message they’re trying to get across not all of us enjoy watching a huge actor with a fake musache mumble woth a BAD english accent. This show is mainly about the producer, director. I’ll be the first to tell you I’m not a philopher.

Then along comes Deacon Bill asking for donations because they’re 800k in the red. Maybe they should scale down their sets wardrobe.

If that is the same Laura Ingrham who does talk radio then I can’t say that I blame you. The radio show can get nasty with comments about people’s looks and intelligence and such nonsense sometimes. There really is no excuse for that. Bill Bennet’s radio show however, is above reproach in both conduct and content.

Here in the Atlanta metro market, the Baptists put up such a fuss about EWTN that Comcast only makes it available with a bundle that costs $40/month extra.

I can’t see spending close to $500 per year extra on top of basic cable to watch TV, even if it is EWTN.

Maybe it’s not the content, but the medium that the OP finds too secular. Perhaps he/she considers radio and television unacceptable media for communicating Christian truth.

Scott Hahn is/was always pushing something. It got a touch old after a while so I stopped watching anything with him in it.

I negotiated with Dish network to get EWTN for not much per month…told them I had to have it… with only two other channels…and they gave me a good price… 😃 …and that is also in the deep south…
 
EWTN is my constant. True, you can’t like everything on EWTN, but I wouldn’t say it’s too secular. I have to admit it gets hard to get used to when there are new shows and the old ones are repeats. Can’t help that in the case of Web of Faith since Fr Levis retired and Fr. Dubay is with Our Lord now.

Oh, I like Scott Hahn. I haven’t seen him on TV but I love hearing him on the radio.
 
Some of the shows can be a bit simplistic, but realize they are formatting the programs for all types, teens, adults, history, faith, apologetics, Church issues, Scripture, etc.

But if you want to move to a more esoteric level, in my opinion the best thing on EWTN is Father Rutler, simply standing in his New York church and talking about a spiritual concept, usually quite beautifully. The title of his half-hour show is something like “Faith in the City” and it might be on Thursday nights. There is no way it could be described as secular.

He was on the other night and told his shortened life story of conversion to the Catholic Faith after 40-years of Protesting.
