Ewtn too secular for me

All in all, Mr. Adamczyk did a great job portraying his fellow countryman! And he’s a very nice-looking fellow in his own right! 👍 😉

A lot of people tend to forget that.

The Poles suffered atrociously under the Nazis.

And of course, the nation itself didn’t exist for nearly 200 years. The Prussians, Russians and Austrians all ‘helped themselves’ to chunks of Polish territory.

Blessed John Paul II was born not many years after Poland regained its freedom.

I am sorry friend. But for what its worth, Philly really needs a good Archbishop. The city is hurting.

I’m happy for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Abp Chaput will definitely try his very best to help, he’s a very good archbishop. I understand, Philadelphia is a city in need.

I hated letting Abp Chaput go. 😦 However, life goes on. I hope, all of you will grow to love the Abp as much as we do.

I don’t know about EWTN being secular, LOL, unless that’s sarcasm 😃 Occasionally I find it too religious…

Women of Grace, though - is the most hardcore show out there man, that Johnette Benkovich is my HERO.

Thank you so much. I have received over 300 birthday wishes from CAF members, 26 telephone calls from USA, UK, South America, Philipines, and Australia, 35 messages on Facebook and some 15 text messages on by cell.

Not really. I’m just a very old brother who has worked in several countries, always as a professor. One advantage of being a professor is that you make about 100 new friends every term. If you teach long enough, those add up.

I still think some of those shows are too secular. I think ramon arroyo show would fit perfectly on the FOX network. As far growing and change I’m fine with that as long I believe it to be in line with the Catholic religion. Now don’t they have an accounting dept. To tell them they’re in over their head asfar asfunds available?

What do you consider too secular?

What would you like to put in its place?

How much do you know about Franciscan ministry?

Let’s start from these basic questions. My reason for asking them is simple. Secular can have many meanings to many people. Some of them are perfectly fine with the Church. What you would put in the place of let’s say the news, is rather subjective. Finally, the network was founded on Franciscan principles and values. Franciscan principles are very Catholic, but very secular. Francis was did not limit himself to speaking about religion and the Franciscans, from his time to this day, always engaged in secular areas. In addition, they alwasy surrendered their ministries to the secular laity.

I’ve already posted what I think is secular to me. What would I put in its there are so many options to list. And as far as being informed as to what a Franciscan, Jesuit, Dominican is I’llbe the first to tell not much. But I do believe they all should follow the Catholic church teachings etc.
 
I have EWTN on my start menu so I can watch it streaming online. I love it. 🙂

But that’s the point. They are very orthodox. I have never heard anything on EWTN that is contrary to Church teaching.

The fact that the people who do the programs are secular men and women, that’s a good thing. That’s what St. Francis would have wanted. He would not have wanted Clare to be in the spot light all of her life.

The news program belongs there. There are parts of the news that the secular media does not cover. For example, I just heard something on EWTN news that no one ever talks about and that’s passports. The new passports have an eloctronic chip with a lot of information about you. No one knows what information is on that chit, because the government is being very nebulous about it. However, this is a concern to the Church, because this kind of “spying” on people often led to persecutions. When things happen in the Catholic community, the media does not report it. For example, 2 million young people gathered in Spain to spend a few days with the popes and bishops. No one reported it. There were over 5,000 young religious under age 30. No one reported it. Everyone reports the shortage of priests, but the fact that there are over 5,000 brothers and sisters under age 30, is not known. This was reported by EWTN. The fact that the Benedictines and Franciscans are having an increase in vocations to the brotherhood instead of the priesthood and that they’re happy about his, is not reported. The fact that there are reasons for the bishops taking positions on immigration reform and what those positions are and why, is not reported by the secular media. It is a great service to Catholics. I wish it was nightly rather than weekly.

Their children’s programs are cute and entertaining. They need to do more with that. Brother Leo can’t do it all.

Life on the Rock did a wonderful program this week on the Benedictines and their rule. They toned it down for teens. They had monks as young as age 20. Where else are kids going to see a 20-year old Benedictine monk? They had him right after Fr. Andrew Apostoli. The kids get to see that the religious life for men is not just for old people, but that you start out young and you get old like everyone else. You’re not going to find that on ABC.

Fr. Frank P explained how the fetus is cut into pieces in an abortion and he quoted from doctors who wrote for him how they do it. This is not something that you get at your parish, because most priests don’t know the medical procedure.

I really don’t see what they teach that the Church does not.

I’ve got a question. Why would ewtn build a television studio in Washington DC. To air a news program that could have been done in Alabama with todays technology. That is was an expensive move not to mention raymonds high dollar suits.
 
I find its wonderful. A “Blessing”, no other word explains it clearer.

Is all good, some a bit boring, some very engaging, some repeats, all great knowledge.

The Saints Come Alive is very well done. Scott Hahn is of great help. All the Sisters and Monks who contribute are a Blessing. Mass, Rosary, Divine Chaplet is very nice. The Sisters are teaching the Daily Office, Mother Ang, Church History, Childerns shows. Whats missing?

I listened to the Abbott speak about Fulton Sheen, fantastic, a very good Soul.

The Catholic Church is Alive before your eyes.

Have you ever been to Irondale? It’s out in the sticks. News organizations are always in metropolitan areas. The headquarters of the Catholic Church in the USA are in Washington, DC. The EWTN news studio was not built by them. I’m not even sure if they own it. It’s on the property of the John Paul II Institute across the street from the Pontifical Catholic Univesity of America, just two blocks east of the USCCB, half a block from the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, across from the Canon Law Society of America, half a block west of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, and surrounded by 42 religious houses, within 10 minutes of Federal City and at the crossroads of three major airports (two of them international), 5 minutes north of the Vatican Embassy, and 5 minutes east of US I-95, the longest and most traveled road in the Eastern USA.

If you’re going to have a news organization and you’re going to have people work for you and come to you or you go to them, you have to be in an accessible place. They not only run news on TV, but also on wireless, statelite radio, internet, and iPods. Now they house the National Catholic Reporter there too. They produce news for over 27 nations in that one place.

They need to be accessible and they need to have access to people, airports, roads, other means of transportation, hotels, Church leadership, religious, and other Church institutions.

Washington is a mid-point between north and south and much more accessible to the West than Irondale, AL. That’s why they do very few programs from their studios. Most of their programs are done in NY, Miami and Washington.

What do you have against Mr. Arroyo’s suits?

Do you know that the nun’s habits cost about $300.00 a piece and a friar’s habit costs about$200.00, without the cord, shoes and side rosary. Throw those in and you’re over $300.00 to look poor.

How many people wear a $300.00 outfit everyday?

However, if they wear a button down shirt and slacks for less than $50.00, everyone complains that they’re too secular. 🤷
