I have heard that Father Corapi has body guards, so someone doesn’t appreciate him. I think he reaches the ones that God wants him to reach, or the only one that could reach that person/s. His style is definately harsher than I react to, but I love him anyway.
Lucky guards! Fr. Corapi is awesome. He is direct, to the point and uncompromising - like Mother Angelica.

To answer the OP, I guess his purpose is to reach people like me - who rush to turn the volume UP when he appears on the TV.

‘Me thinks’ that if Father Corapi is ‘kind’ in person, he should show that side of himself on TV, instead of acting like a drill sergeant. You DO realize he WAS an Army NCO, right? Perhaps he’s hamming it up a bit for publicity’s sake. Could that be interpretted as falsehood? I wonder.👍
You probably would have been offended by St Pio’s blunt and direct approach too…

You know, Padre Pio, the priest whose name Fr. Corapi took during his pre-ordination formation.

I am sorry you find Father Corapi so distasteful. I imagine many people don’t like to be told so boldly about sin and what their participation in it does to the soul.

For me, Father Corapi has been a God-send. He was one of the people who led me back to the Church after so many years away. I was (and still am) blown away by his conversion story, and the fact that here was a priest (FINALLY!!) who could get through to me on the facts of our faith. Here was a person who has been unafraid to say boldly, loudly, and clearly-- “This is what the Church teaches, this is what She means when she teaches it, and you MUST believe it under penalty of sin.” That was exactly what I needed to bring me squarely and firmly back into the Church. I am forever grateful for Mother Angelica, EWTN, and Father Corapi.

Am I the only person who thinks that Jesse “The Body” Ventura could be his evil twin brother separated at birth? LOL 😃

When I begin to feel comfortable living in this world, or complacent in my Faith, priests like Fr Corapi jolt me back to reality.

II wonder who decided he could make a contribution to national evangelization.
He’s not my style, but I can see why folks might cotton to him. I haven’t listened to him much. Can I listen to him in realplayer online anywhere, or does his stuff cost money unless I can listen live on ewtn at certain times?

I think he could make a contribution, given the little I’ve heard.

Fr. Corapi has an amazing conversion story. One of his heroes is Bishop Sheen. I hear the resemblance and appreciate the differences in style.

I have read that Fr. Corapi is going to be retiring from public speaking in order to spend time writing books. We were able to get tickets to one of his venues. Don’t wait if you want to hear and see him in person. Here is his upcoming schedule:

God bless Fr. Corapi.

Fr. Corapi is outstanding! I like his no-nonsense approach. He tells you exactly how it is. My favorite thing is when he says we all will die, and we are going to go to Heaven or Hell. It is that simple. We can live how the Bible instructs us to live, or we can live how we want and hope the Bible or the Church will change to our wants. The latter won’t happen, so we need to follow what the Church has been teaching since Christ was on this planet. He comes on tv in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

I was an Evangelical Christian and a few years back I was scanning through the channels and I came across EWTN with Fr. Corapi. I had to stop and see this guy. I had seen Mother Angelica briefly a couple of times before, but hadn’t come across Fr. Corapi yet. I listened to him for awhile and thought “is this guy really Catholic?” I didn’t think that Catholics really believed in Jesus like I did. And he was getting pretty honest about a lot of stuff and before I knew it, I was hooked on him. I started watching him regularly, and then I started watching other EWTN programming regularly. At the same time I was studying my own faith pretty intensely and one thing led to another. It’s now a few years later, and you guessed it, I’m a Catholic as of Easter 2006!

**I LOVE Fr. Corapi **(and Mother Angelica and EWTN) and owe him a great debt.

Too bad you can’t see past his assertiveness. It must be a personality type that pushes some buttons for you. I have some of those myself. Problem is, until you realize it and learn to face it head on, the Lord will keep sending those types into your life until you do! 😉

His program is on every morning at 10:00 AM Eastern time on EWTN radio. I try to listen every morning at work. His talks are also available for sale, but I have not bought anything other than his conversion story yet.

EWTN is available on Real Audio (realplayer) as well as Windows Media Player, just go to www.EWTN.com and click on radio, then click listen live at 10:00 Eastern time. I don’t know if his shows are available on pod casts, but that sure would make it more convenient to listen.

fr. corapi is, in my opinion, the best american preacher alive today. he has got that rare balance of fire and brimstone, humor, compassion and charity; his style is very well rounded and wholly catholic.

i don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like him. he’s also easy to relate to because he has done it all. he knows what it’s like to have lived apart from grace and to struggle to stay in grace.

I see the problem. I am almost always working at that time. The only place I’ve ever heard him is in the car a few times, probably when my schedule rearranged itself.🙂

We’ve had enough of the “goody gum drop Jesus” preaching. Enough watered down, let’s have everybody FEEL good and not take this faith thing too serioulsy theology.
:clapping::amen::clapping:

I have never seen Fr. Corapi (my carrier doesn’t have EWTN), but the feelgood, group-therapy, Carl Rodgers, hippie-dip style of “preaching” is truly a serious problem in the Church. We have a right to the truth and to solid Catholic teaching from the pulpit, and we’re not getting it.

A little over a month ago, I started attending a local 7:00 a.m. daily Mass that is celebrated by a retired priest who has been ordained for more than 50 years, and who shows up faithfully every morning in spite of being on oxygen and in poor health. Every morning I get the Mass, plain and simple, without frills, dressings, or night-at-the-Improv stuff, and solid Catholic preaching. It’s so wonderful, Sunday Mass at my regular parish (where we have one priest whose every Mass is illicit) almost feels like a let-down. I recently commented in another thread that the other day, this dear old priest actually preached about the Four Last Things, and that this was literally the first time in years I had heard a priest preach about these things from the pulpit.

The trouble is that nowadays (at least in my diocese) priests like this are the exception rather than the rule. We’ve been fed spiritual junk food for so many years, it’s no wonder some turn their noses up at meat and potatoes.

I have two things to say about him:
  1. he is very knowledgeable about the faith; I always learn something whenever I listen to him;
  2. he kinda scares the h**l out of me, sometimes.

I don’t like the guy’s style (way too harsh). What purpose does his approach serve in the grand scheme of things? I wonder who decided he could make a contribution to national evangelization. I DON’T GET IT! *** Whenever I see him on TV, I bolt across the room to change channels or hit the mute button. The guy really gets under my skin. ***😦
The “grand theme of things” is that there are people who are drawn to Father Corapi, to his message, and how he delivers his message.
It might not be you cup of tea, but there are some people who need to hear him.
I noticed that you knew that he had been in the army, so you probably know his testimony, it is very powerful and there a lot of people down on their luck, into drugs and thinking that all is lost who need to hear what he has to say.

Oftentimes when someone is “bothered” by something someone says, or the way they say it, is because it touches a part of them that needs “fixing” . Perhaps this is the OP’s problem. Father Corapi just happens to be the one calling his attention to what may be bothering him.

Like I said, I basically like the guy, have no hard feelings towards him or anything, but some of his fire and brimstone lectures really get my scrupulocity going wild! I start having nighmares of me and my family in hell for all eternity, etc. I think I need to stay with someone with a milder approach.

From what I have read in your posts on this forum, you seem to be a very consciencious and sincere Catholic Christian. I can’t think of anything that Fr. Corapi has ever said that should make you feel uneasy or frightened. His harshness, if you want to call it that, is always directed toward those who have distorted the faith and led the sheep of God astray, or those who don’t take their faith seriously at all, and presume on Christ’s mercy. I just don’t see you fitting those categories at all. 🙂

Don’t be afraid of Fr. Corapi! 😉
