Wow, nothing like a list like that to remind us of what sinners we really are, lol!

I could circle A LOT of those things on that list. Think the priest would be horrified if I went to my next Confession with the list in hand?
It would depend on the priest… It seems, at least for now, it’s better if I have my sins listed, because it appears there is a memory vortex in the confessional… without the list, I might only remember 1 or 2 things I need to confess, and then I’ll just stutter and sputter for the rest of the time… 😊

Luckily, my priest understands and doesn’t mind at all as it helps me to make a good confession. The only thing that’s really been mentioned more than once is a caution about not letting my list fall into enemy hands.

If you do decide to make one, it’s a VERY good idea to not put your name or the names of others that might need to be mentioned… I would suggest a source of fire for after confession, maybe a shredder, but I’ve always have had an affinity for fire, so personally, I’d go for the lighter fluid. 👍 😉 With a water hose close by, in case.

God Bless!

Ok well I agree with most of those.
But what about the one about not helping the poor?
Once when my mom was driving by a homeless man saying he was hungry & homeless.
But he did have a bike that looked pretty nice and he had a tent with what looked like other stuff in it, but I’m not sure.
My mom kept on driving, she’s had problems with people begging before, one time a woman begged my mom for money & my mom gave her some but we saw her later walking into the liquor store.
I confessed for being selfish, but I forgot to confess about not helping others.
I just found out from fr.'s list that it could be.
I guess I didn’t exactly know, but I knew we should help.
I could have told my mom that she should stop, but I highly doubt she would have done it cuz there were a lot of people behind us and she doesn’t trust people begging any more since of her troubles with them in the past.
Would then I have to go back to confession???

Well, since there’s so much doubt about the sin and you honestly forgot to confess that you didn’t help other people, I don’t think you’ve committed a mortal sin. I advise you to bring up your anxiety over it with the priest anyway, and he should be able to clarify things for you. It feels better once you’ve let it out…but just be careful not to fall into scrupulosity - a condition which I myself carry. God bless! 😃

Fr. Duane Stenzal does a wonderful examination of conscience every night at, I believe, 10 o’clock eastern, on Radio Maria. The program is called “Take Your Limits Off God”, and can be heard here.

Somehow, hearing another speak the words as I pray them along with him underscores the holiness of it all, and I feel much more intimately connected with God while doing it, as though the priest’s voice is a direct link and confirmation that God is listening to me each night, caring that my conscience be cleansed, etc.
