Hi everyone, I believe the enemy will try to stop us from saying the rosary but what I’m experiencing is plain weird. I’m perfectly fine on my phone browsing through CAF and I decide to do the rosary finally (same position) and it never fails, I start itching.
This happens probably 85% of the time if not more. One time I was saying it with my husband and the man barely moved while I was making jerky movements at every itch. Sometimes my arms get that RLS sensation if anyone is familiar which makes you feel the need to move your arm.
I got up to the fourth mystery and gave up since the itch was taking over, went and had a cookie, got mad and finished (no itch that time).
Obviously I’m not possessed even though outwardly it looks strange, but what on earth could this be do you think? Anyone experience something similar?
As I type this I’m perfectly still. Weirdness.

The obvious first question to ask would be do you ever get these symptoms at other times?

Thank you. Yes. Sometimes (not every night) I have trouble sleeping because I feel restless but it’s not really because of any itching actually.

oh my gosh, that actually happened to me too before I totally forgot about that.

One rule of the Church is that in order to say something is of supernatural origin all natural explanations must be thoroughly investigated and definitively ruled out.

So before jumping to demons and possession, you would need to carefully monitor yourself for these symptoms and report to a Physician to see what they think. Potentially try some medications.

Always follow the Church - which means always try to find natural explanations before wondering if something supernatural is occuring.

I may have typed carelessly I don’t think this is supernatural I just have no idea what it could be. I would seriously have to tell my family doctor this only happens during the rosary.

It’s probably because the Rosary, due to its repetitive nature, induces a sort of hypnotic state especially when saying it while tired.

I have fallen asleep while holding a Rosary and reciting it several times.

Thank you, I say it in my head because unfortunately I get out of breathe if I say it out loud. It’s great you don’t stop.

If you’re uncomfortable with saying that you could say something more general like “it seems to happen while I’m meditating about various things.”

This is what I was thinking too, thank you. There have been times this hasn’t happened and I was able to enjoy and immerse myself in the meditation but sadly that is not common.

Oh I like saying I say the rosary 😊 Any Catholic talk is the highlight of my day.
I’m just trying to imagine his face after I say it. But he may tell me to change position which is what i’ll try.

Since the Rosary is a private devotion and not a set Liturgical prayer, you are free to modify it in any way you want, especially in individual recitation.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong or sinful with thinking it’s boring or even disliking the Rosary. I know that will jar some people to hear, but it’s the truth.

You could try modifying the Rosary in a way which makes you more interested in order to keep your attention and draw you into true devotion.

Devotions, IMO, should not be tedious chores. They should be something which you look forward to doing, and which you freely choose because you want to do it.

Catholicism is not to be reduced to legalism and a mindset of “ugh, I hate doing this but it’s good for me so I need to” like physical exercise or work.

Catholicism is a love relationship with a Person, Jesus Christ. You should want to do things because you love your Master and Father and Lord Jesus, not because you’re afraid he’ll beat or disown you.

I think that because praying is so peaceful. I yawnre about 4 times at mass today and felt like a colossal [explitive], but it was so calmed and peaceful that it made me yawn. If I try praying the rosary before bed I often sleep like a Baby Jesus.

My goodness, I can’t remember the last time I slept like Baby Jesus.

lol, sleep like baby Jesus.

I’m gonna start using that.

I think tonight I’ll drink a mug of sleepy tea then pray the Jesus Prayer till I sleep like baby Jesus.

I do it for love of the Lord, I do it poorly( this is the first time in my life I gave up to eat a cookie and then go back) but I do it! I would like to do it more often just to honor Him and our Blessed Mither but sometimes my mind gets very tired.

Then I would say your intentions, and therefore your devotions are good and pure and true.

When you start getting too tired just put the Rosary down on the bed table and then say some Hail Marys and Our Fathers, or simply speak and pour your thoughts and desires out to Our Father in personal language until you drift off to sleep.

Thank you. I would love to fall asleep saying prayers, I probably have only done that less than a handful of times.

When I pray the Rosary, I use the Rosary Deluxe App on my iPad. The voice explains each mystery and a photo is provided for each decade. Plus, she says all the prayers. I use it as an aid to my prayer. I hold my beads and pray along with her. It’s like praying with a friend. The app also provides the Litany to the Most Holy Name of Jesus and the Divine Mercy prayers.

It’s a big help to RCIA Catholics.

There is also a free app that helps you pray the daily office. It’s called iBreviary.

Thank you so much, I downloaded the Laudate app. Is the Breviary similar?
