The child isn’t being denied day care - the parents are being denied the opportunity to enroll their child in** that particular school**. No one has a right to go to any particular private school.

If you really want to look at Church teaching, the only “right” that is being denied this child is the right, clearly described in MANY Church documents, to be brought up by a loving mother AND father.
Exactly. And BTW-she doesn’t have two Fathers. She has a father and mother just like everyone does. Her father decided to put his sexual desires above the childs well being.

Having a two year old in a day care poses a threat to nobody. In fact, because of her parental situation, would it not be positive for her to be exposed to “Christian values” that this day care claims to uphold.
Please. If the Father really cared about his child,he would have out the child above his own desires and simply applied as a single parent. He insisted on thrusting his relationship in the school’s face, and thus, he is the one punishing his child.

Again, his desire for recognition was placed above his desire to see his child placed in the school. I pity the child, not because of the school’s decision, but because he has a selfish father, and frankly, apparently no mother present.

And it is obvious that he is going to continue to use his child to proclaim his disordered lifestyle.

I don’t know what to say. While I support the orthodoxy of the clergy involved and I think they are right to want to shield the other students from immorality, I also worry about the loss of a Catholic education for this child. Is the child Catholic?

**It should be up to ANY private business to refuse service to ANYONE for ANY REASON. **

Let the free market work!

And are you as diligent about discussing discrimination when Catholics are persecuted?

Do tell!
I completely agree.

Yes, where is the mother?

I find your statement extremely disturbing. So according to your belief, it is acceptable for a racist to deny service to African-Americans at a family owned restaurant? Let the free market work, I guess?

Also, I reject your snarky assumption that you must be a Republican in order to be Catholic.
Homosexual Acts are moral choices, skin color is not. So it is reasonable to allow one and not the other since they differ so grossly. But should we be allowed to discriminate for ANY reason in private (non-public) business?

I bet most folks discriminate based on skin color when they date or pick friends and we say nothing about that. So if someone wanted to extend the notion to wider circles, to private clubs or private business maybe it ought to be accommodated also? This is not forced slavery of those excluded, just private place exclusion. Otherwise you force gatherings and businesses underground. These things aren’t always clear cut. Today black businesses dominating in Atlanta are unhappy they have to let Whites into the area lately. I understand it. And that’s a public place! If “Atlanta” was all black owned private property then I would really sympathize. Recently I read a photographer’s small business, Elane Photography, refused to shoot photos for a gay couple’s commitment ceremony, gay marriage wasn’t even legal in the state at the time, and Elane was taken to court over it and LOST and fined 6 grand!

There were a few posters who seemed to think it is a Christian/Catholic school.
Perhaps some did, but it doesn’t really change anything. It is a private school with its own rules for enrollment. The father chose to place his grandstanding over his child, despite his protesting of how important enrollment was. Much like our President, who put his own desires and pride when faced with a one year delay of the individual mandate over shutting down the government, despite the fact many on the left in Congress are now warming toe the idea that there has to be a delay. So the dad’s in good company…

For now 🤷.

I’m sure the US Supreme Court will decide to take it up in November; the appeal is still pending until then, and considering there are five extremely conservative Justices on the Court, I find it exceedingly unlikely that the NM court’s ruling will stay.

This school was completely justified in refusing to allow the child to stay in the school because of her gay dad and his partner. The bishop is completely right on this.

Kennedy isn’t extremely conservative, and Roberts may or may not be crazy. But since this doesn’t involve the right to kill your baby, Kennedy will probably get it right.

Besides, we already know how this story is going to end. Joey reconnects with an old flame and moves to San Francisco.

I don’t know that it matters if the school is religious or not. My reservations lie not with the adults, but with the kids. Now that gay marriage is being legalized, kids with same-sex parents are going to become more and more common. My concern lies with how kids (those with straight as well as those with gay parents) are taught from the earliest age to deal with these matters. Does excluding the gay-parented kids help or hurt the “love them but not their lifestyle” approach?

We can regulate private schools according to our beliefs, but we still have to teach our kids how to live in the society that surrounds them. Not sure how I feel about it but I do know that we can’t avoid teaching these lessons anymore - if we do, the only voices our kids will hear are the ones equating non-endorsement of gay lifestyles to hate…

To all the miss rev Lovejoy’s on here screaming “Why wont anyone think of the children?” Why is it ok for the gay father to use his child as a political tool? He knew the child wouldn’t be allowed to join but he went anyway. Because this as nothing more than a chance at some anti Catholic/pro gay propaganda.
Now he can cry about how the evil Church wont let his kid go to school.
What a pathetic father,
And FYI. The child is 2 yrs old. I highly doubt it is feeling left out of anything.

This post is spot on, and the cherry on top is the reference to Mrs. Lovejoy.

I find myself siding with the school on this one, only because of the actions of the father. He is trying to get some tacit approval that the Church cannot give by using his child as a wedge.

In most cases I have no problem with loving people of any sexual orientation raising children, but that ends when they begin to use them to push a cause…and that applies to politicians who use them in campaign ads.

Let kids be kids…leave them out of politics across the board.

To those who said it doesn’t matter, this is why I pointed out that it is not a religous school. The Church can’t do anything here, it’s a private school. The Archbishop just lent his support for the school’s decision, he had nothing to do with it.

I highly doubt an aborted baby feels left out of anything but we know better than that so that’s a terrible argument.

The child’s father was asked by the school to present himself as a single parent and he refused. This father wants his same-sex relationship front and center.
Why would a loving parent put their child in a religious school whose theology you abhor?
He IS a single parent. The fact that he does not want to enroll the child as a single parent indicates that he wants the school to recognize his same sex ‘marriage.’ It cannot do that.
