I do agree with you.

People didn’t recognize Jesus as the savior because they expected somebody like a king.
But Jesus came as a humble, a poor man.
I feel like we are called to live like that also.

Kathrin
I agree and Jesus was perscuted by the scribes and the priest within the temple in those times. Jesus came also to reteach God’s laws. Jesus was also judged, spit upon, scorned etc. Jesus has set us free in deed. We are no longer under bondage in order to freely practice our faith. Millions were killed, crucified etc because of their faith and were not allow to practice it in the open. There were the rich and the poor (slaves).

God Bless

First of all, when you type in all caps it amounts to “yelling” at somebody on a forum thread. Same goes for using seven exclamation points. We’re here to have conversations, not yell at one another. And not much content comes across when someone is perceived as yelling. I used the word “vicious” for a reason. If you don’t wish to be perceived that way, please, for the sake of equinimity, tone it down.

Second, I apologize if I somehow missed your message, because it seemed to me that you were mistaking having beautiful churches for idolatry. It is this point with which I take issue (as does Holy Mother Church, or she wouldn’t have them, would she?).
I did not say anything about our dear priest or thou poverty or sacrifice. The topic is about glorified churches and idols!

Sounds like alot of boasting, boasting and judging on your part. No one is judging the Catholic Church I am speaking of “IDOLS” the second commandment. Unlike Protestants–are you judging.them?. I am not here to judge!!! We will all be judged by God!!! For God see’s all, know’s all truth!!

I was not pushing a vicious finger but I do not believe we worship and honour God in making “Idols” If that affends you I am sorry, but I do not believe in such things that ““I also”” have knelt before prayed and talked to! . Jesus said " the time for such ignorance as ended" what does charity have to do with :“IDOLS”.

When you say “NO BODY ON EARTH” HAS NONE MORE to serve and worship God then the “Roman Catholic Church”— I think you forgetting about “Jesus Christ”, Moses, Abraham, Apostles, our dear Blessed Mother AND MOST OF ALL “GOD”` FOR WHOM ALL HAVE RECEIVED SO “NO ONE CAN BOAST”!!! And all who were crucified for their faith and those we do not even know who served God in the silence of their hearts!!!

And as far as telling me to read the Cathlolic Church history where would you like me to begin. Maybe starting with Abraham who came from “Africa”? Or the millions who were crucified for their faith??

I love our Pope, our priests, our family and pray for all the nations for we are all God’s children! I pray for all that God has placed in authority that God will give them strength to serve righteousness and justice for all in truth and according to God’s will and desire for us all!!

Jesus said: “If they hate you, know that they hated me first”

Sorry did no realize when doing that it means yelling.

Sorry and it is not about the beautiful churches but stone idols and statues within them I question.

I ask would God not be more qlorified and whorshiped, honoured when we obey and do what he ask? Serving others are we not serving him. Seeking to become HOLY for our Father is HOLY? Jesus did not come to built a qlorified material church, but to built a spiritual Church.

For our we not all temples of the Lord? Is this not what pleases, glorifieds and honour’s our Heavenly Father? Yes, it is nice to have a beautiful church to gather and pray in, but is this what Jesus suffered and died on the cross for? Was this the message and the purpose for which he came? I believe more than any beautiful church God our Heavenly Father would be pleased, honoured, qlorified seeing and watching his children serving others, seeking to know him and do all that he wills and desires for each of his children. Seeking to become one with him, seeking to become Holy, keeping our hands busy, sharing all that he has given to us with others. I think you know what I am trying to say. Compassion, mercy etc.

God’s house is a house of prayer, thanking, praising worshipping him from within our hearts. God said when two or more are present I am there, what idol do when need when he is present?

I ponder within asking Jesus. Are we here to build glorified churches or to build up the Kingdom of God, his children, lost souls and to serve others who are suffering in need and want. All who believe are the living church, God’s family. Jesus Christ is High Priest forever over his church. Salvation of lost souls.

That is all I am saying.

Love and God Bless.

God had a lot to say about the designs of Moses’ meeting tent, the Ark of the Covenant and Solomon’s Temple. Not to mention the very vestments (down to the underwear  ) worn by Aaron and his priestly clan. In His plans He Himself specified that the best and costliest of materials were to be used in so doing.

If He has the right and desire to command us to worship Him on the sabbath, surely He cares too about the surroundings in which this worship is to take place.
That is true but there was no idol made in his image was there? yes God did command to worship him on the sabbath day he asked for.You are right.

I believe I understand what you are asking now. However, it still has not been demonstrated how a statue equals an idol. Without going to the dictionary, I will give you what I know to be simple definitions of the two:

Statue: A work of art carved with human hands or tools in order to resemble someone or something.

Idol: Anything made by humans that is given religious worship, paid money, sacrificed to. Anything given the place that belongs to God alone, or called a “god.”

So this goes back to elementary logic.
  1. Not all idols are statues. I’m not well-versed in the making of idols, but I know that some of them are little crudely carved bits of wood that superstitious people put into their pockets or on their mantlepieces.
  2. Not all statues are idols. Catholics do not worship the statues. We do not give them money or sacrifices. We do not believe they are gods, nor do we give them the place of God in our reverence. Indeed, we do not even believe they are alive, because we know they are only representations of the saints who we venerate. Furthermore, there is a principle involved, that whatever veneration we give to the image of a person, we give to that person in spirit. I have heard this taught by credible Catholic apologists.
So is the thing in question our venerations of and prayer to the saints? Please let me know if this is the case, because it opens up another door of discussion.

Another thing I’d like to point out is that the effect of having statues of saints in our churches is the opposite of what you’re saying. It sounds like you’re arguing that by having statues we are not truly praying, living holy lives, serving God and his people. But I can attest to the opposite. When I see St. Joan of Arc, or St. Theresa of Avila, or St. Jude, or Our Lady of Guadalupe in my church, I am compelled to remember the lives that they led, the great sacrifices they made, and standards they have set for becoming living saints. I venerate them as my spiritual elders and implore them for their help in my daily service to God. I draw from them great inspiration, strength, intercession, and encouragement. Having the images of our great Saints present, I am a better Christian.

Also, since you are Catholic I’m sure you’re aware that on Wednesday we celebrated the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Are you also aware that in her apparition to St. Juan Diego she told him she wanted him to build a shrine for her there? It is still there today. People from all across the Americas go to venerate her, pray to her, and recognize her as the Patroness of our two continents. So, I ask, would the Virgin Mary ask Juan Diego to build an “idol?” Would she so blasphemously denigrate the throne of God? Or was there a very good reason for building her shrine?

In peace,

mary
