Experience with your guardian angel?

I once read an aritcle in Catholic Digest about a woman whose alarm was broken, so she asked her Guardian Angel to wake her up in time for Mass the next morning.

After reading that, I set my own alarm and went to bed, jokingly asking my Guardian Angel to make sure I woke up in time for Mass, even though my alarm was not broken.

The next morning at the same time that my alarm was set for, our smoke alarm went off (THAT would wake anybody up!).

I am convinced that was my Guardian Angel responding to my playful request in a playful way.

(Yes, we checked, there was no other reason for the smoke alarm to go off! :))

What about people who live their life rejecting God, would they still have guardian angels with them, thru out their lives…if so what would their purpose be?

If they knowingly and willingly rejected God, wouldnt the guardian angels presence and any actions they take, impede the persons decision, using their free will to do so?
I imagine a confirmed atheist’s angel would be really bored, like the Maytag repairman. 😛

I have noticed that this seems to work when sitting in a restaurant waiting for your check, especially if you will be late for something if you can’t pay for your meal very soon.

Just ask your guardian angel to speak to the waiter’s guardian angel if your waiter is nowhere in sight. This has worked so often that it seems to be more than a coincidence.

I have really wondered this to, especially in regards to Hebrews 1:14 which says, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” When I was a Baptist, we interpreted the last part of this verse to mean that a person only receives a Guardian angel when they become a Christian. But the Catholic Church teaches that everyone has a guardian angel. Which I believe confirms Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 18 about not despising “these little ones” because their angel in heaven is always in God’s presence. (and there were no “Christians” at this time)

In thinking more about this because of your comment, I think that even people who have rejected God can still be influenced by their Guardian Angels to do good in this world and be a blessing to others. IMHO.

I do too. As long as one is alive, there is still hope and the Guardian Angel’s job is not done.

Interesting stories. Has anyone read the book about Fr. Gereon Goldmann? I haven’t read the book, but heard a talk from an Opus Angelorum priest about him. One time, he heard a voice telling him to dig a ditch, which saved his life. Later on, the sister who’s been praying for him all these years told him that she’d sent her guardian angel to help him out at the same time that happened. He was very surprised to hear that.

When I was in college and giving up on my catholic upbringing and starting to get into bad things, I kid you not, my radio alarm clock went off one morning set on the Christian radio station. No one had been in my room and I did not touch it or move the dial from the rock station I regularly listened to. It was like a real wake up call. lol. At the time, I really hated that it happened! I was irritated because I didn’t want to be reminded of “god stuff” anymore, but perplexed (a bit spooked) about it happening.

Now I love that that happened. 😛

I’ve heard that each Guardian Angel looks differently. I’ve heard that priests have more than one Guardian Angel, as do doctors…
I’ve never heard that doctors have more than one Guardian Angel. Just curious where to heard that. I would suppose they would need it. Its a difficult job. I suppose God could send more than one angel to anyone requesting that kind of help or just send them otherwise- if He saw fit.

Cute stories by the way- thanks for sharing. … oh, not speaking about the near car accident story as being ‘cute’, but talking about the other ones.

This is from a book entitled “Get Us Out Here…!!!” Said book is a lengthy interview with a woman, Maria Simma who, by the grace of God, was visited routinely by the holy souls in Purgatory. During her interview, she says that your Guardian Angel accompanies you during your stay in Purgatory and consoles you.

Around this part of the interview she mentions that a friend of hers who is also a mystic that she trusts, makes the claim that clergy and medical professionals have more than one angel of the Lord assisting them. I don’t know I could really say they have two Guardian angels, or like one primary Guardian Angel and an additional angel specifically for doctors / priests.

When I pray for the souls in Purgatory, sometimes I imagine that me and my Guardian Angel venture to the deepest part of Purgatory and “pull” that soul out of this deepest part, console (sometimes to the point of tears) and encourage him or her. Then I ask Our Lady of Mercy to envelope this soul under mantle and ask Our Lady to reduce this soul’s stay in purgation.

I personally hope I never have an experience with my guardian angel.

Hey, Thanks Wannabe Monk! Appreciate it because I never head that before. Nice to know!

Best wishes to you!

Never kinda thought about talking to my guardian angel. We all have one, right? Mine probably has a smoking addiction and complains about me over the heavenly water cooler 😦

So interesting!

And thanks for the reading suggestion! Looking it up now 🙂
Do you have any book titles or site suggestions for this?
Thanks
Unfortunately l only remember St Frances of Rome from an encyclopedia of Saints. But a quick Google search should yield some good results
