Even if they were registered in a national database, there would be valuable data for law enforcement to recognize a threat.

Yeah. Sometimes I shake my head at what people manage to come up with. Like the government being responsible for planning and executing 9/11

And I’m not very strong on a total ban so much as I am on severe restrictions - I’d like to see the same restrictions put in place for civilians to own an AR-15 as if they wanted to own an M-16.
I don’t want to see the same restrictions as an M-16 because I would much rather see people with AR-15s than M-16s. I don’t want to see more M-16s on the street.

However, I do think there might be some COMMON SENSE regulations that perhaps we can put out there for AR-15s (and other guns).

However, there are a few issues:
  1. Gun owners and people in rural areas do not trust people like Nancy Pelosi. The far left has made it clear a number of times that if it were up to them, all the guns would be collected.
  2. People in urban/suburban areas often fail to understand that in rural America, the local police department can often be 20+ miles/minutes away. That is many parts of rural America, once you call the police, you are still on your own for a very long time.
I grew up in Rural America and today live in Suburban Philadelphia, after formerly living inside the city limits. So I’ve seen both sides.

When I lived in rural Delaware (a very small state), my local police department was the State Police. Now for me, we lived relatively close to the State Police station (so the police were 5-10 minutes away).

But in Delaware, there are no townships and only 1 county has a police department. So if you live in the two other counties, your local police department is the State Police (unless you live inside the boundaries of an incorporated city/town). There are only 5 state police departments in the two counties without county police. And a 6th close to the county border. So what that means, there is large number of Delaware residents who live far away from police protection.

In PA, I don’t have that. We have townships. So if you don’t live in an incorporated City or Town (we call them Boros), then you live in a township and still have local police.

So it’s different for me in PA. Rural people in PA don’t need a gun as much to prevent crime as rural people in states without townships do.

Regardless of what the left says, it is VERY hard to issue blanket regulations across the entire United States. We simply don’t all have the same level of police protection.

And regardless of what the right says, urban areas & other areas with high crime rates should be able to make it harder for criminals to get guns. Local states & cities should be allowed to apply sticker regulations if they choose to.

God bless

This would be almost impossible. You’d either have to ban the mechanical mechanism that enables semi auto which would include a huge amount of sporting shotguns, pistols, and even some standard hunting rifles.

Or, you’d be banning cosmetic features like they did with the 94 assault weapons ban that did absolutely nothing to curb violence. (Columbine took place smack in the middle of the AWB.)

Fine, all guns must be banned except for muskets and these:

I’m on the verge of compromise, what’s your stance on bayonets and muzzle loading cannons?

I suppose they can be used too, along with civil war era gatling guns.

Good luck getting this thing into the school hallways:

I drove a 77 El Camino as my first car. I’d have loved to have a gatling gun mounted in the bed 😎

Come on. You are better than this. Your last two posts are not rational debate.

I honestly think that if someone who is pro more gun control can put forth some common sense legislation, most responsible gun owners will listen.

Using extreme examples (on both sides of the debate) do not help. Solutions needs facts backing them up, not wishful thinking.

Injecting a little levity into a heated topic like this seemed a good thing for me to do.

Apparently Jan agreed with me.

I’m sorry you didn’t.

Sorry, I didn’t pick up on your levity. I thought you were down right serious. After all, no voice infections in a chat room / online forum ☺️

LOL.

You thought I was SERIOUS that only muskets and gatling guns should be legal?

Goodness thats hilarious, lol. 😀

Not so much though considering some leftists out there might actually advocate for that…

Poe’s law strikes again

No, I thought you were seriously making a stupid argument 😎

That gets back to the other problem. Too much government control.

The chances of the 2nd Ammendment being repealed or amended are slim.
Abortion has a better chance of being outlawed than gun rights.

The other issue is private security contractors. I believe the government
is being quiet on their involvement with that industry and I believe them
to be part of the problem. In other words, gov can’t control gun
rights but they can use private contractors to do it for them. I wouldn’t
be surprised if this kid went ballistic due to the activities of a private
contractor.

BTW… The government using private contractors to do what they can’t do
is in substance a violation of law.

Without any solid evidence, this theory is very far fetched.

Most likely, the issue stems from violent video games. I would be willing to bet that he played a lot of violent, shooter games.

Military units around the world often use video games to help combat troops to desensitizes them to shooting the enemy. So if the military uses “video games” to help their people kill people, imagine what these shooter games are doing to kids.

God bless

I can’t think of any nation that is going to help a rebellion against the US government. Even the Chinese and the Russian’s know that’s a bad idea.
That would all depend on the situation. I can certainly see them mounting a PR campaign that promoted the issues of the US dissenters, this is standard tactics. They’d sponsor UN resolutions etc.

Trump is viewed that way. Nothing could be farther from the truth however. Trump is an attention seeking buffoon. I voted third party when he hijacked the GOP nomination. If necessary I will do so in 2020.
