Dawn Eden’s thesis critiquing Christopher West’s approach to presenting the teachings of John Paul II’s Theology of the Body is continuing to generate debate. On Wednesday, professor Dr. Janet Smith weighed in on the issue, calling Eden’s thesis “seriously flawed” after which author Steve Kellmeyer criticized Smith for unleashing “disjointed” attacks.

It seems that few people in the world anymore have the ability to separate their ego from their ideas. Folks, you CAN be wrong and still be a good person.

Seems like every discussion on ideas nowadays degerates into attacks on the people that espouse the ideas.

Shame.
 
I didn’t know about the “phallic” symbol thing, but when Christopher West came to my university to give talks, I thought he did a great job presenting the Church’s teachings. I don’t really understand why people think he is irreverent, but I do understand why they have issue with a few isolated pieces of his interpretation of Pope JPII’s Theology of the Body.
