Explaining the trinity

Yes thankyou. I’ve got a book called Confessions of St Augustine, then underneath it says Spiritual Meditations and Divine Insight. Is this the same book? I’ve never read it, I forgot I had it in my bookshelf.

Yes, I would guess that is it. I’ve never seen any sub-titles on it though. Here is the link to two translations.

I read it last year, after I had already returned to the Faith for about half a year. At the time I read it mostly out of curiosity and because I like to read; not hoping to get any spiritual insight. But this book is wonderful. Besides being a spiritual masterpiece it is also a great piece of literature that should be on anyone’s “must read” list. I remember reading it and asking myself how could some one love God like that, how was it possible to love God so much. Thankfully, with much prayer, God has slowly started to show me how it is possible.

The follow-up question is why would god demand from me to believe in something I don’t have the capability to understand?

God will not change just because humans cannot understand. He made us understand in the best way for us and step by step but we will never be able to fully grasp. So yes we can explain the Trinity but we do not pretend to contain/limit God in our limited brains.

if that’s so then I might as well believe in anything without understanding it.

I know the Trinity is very hard to comprehend. We as people want to be able to “see” or “touch” something in order to believe it it. We always want “Proof”. It seems to be our human nature.

My children when little couldn’t understand how God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit could all be one and the same. The Trinity…So here’s the physical example I gave them.

I held an egg and said to them, What is this? They all replied an Egg.

Next I cracked the egg, and put the insides of it in a bowl. I asked them what was in the bowl. An egg was their reply.

I then seperated the yoke from the white and put it in two different bowl and said, What are these. Their answer, the Yoke and the White.

I then said, how many parts now to the egg. Their answer was 3.

My question to them was …How can that be, I thought it was just One Egg?

I then went on to explain to them that God, like the egg is One, yet He has other parts that we know, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Which make 3, yet together they are One.

Sometimes just a simple physcial answer makes it easy to understand in the Trinity.

After all if God can make the World and all that is in it…who are we to doubt in the Trinity?

It may be hard to understand how God does this, becomes a man, named Jesus, then sends the Holy Spirit. It’s called Faith.

Everyday we as humans put faith in things without a second thought. Our lights, our cars, Airplanes, and the list goes on.

Faith is, things we may not be able to see and we might not understand…but we believe in.
