I think I suffer from scrupulosity (is there an official diagnosis process or is it self-determined?) and lately I’ve been struggling with the idea that my shirt might have ridden up and the waistband of my underclothes might be exposed. I feel like if someone sees, it could be a source of inappropriate thoughts for them and I would have committed scandal. Because of this, I’ve been constantly checking the hem of my shirt for the past few days. It’s gotten to the point where I’m anxious sitting down in front of people and I have trouble doing anything with my hands because theyre always checking. Thanks!

Please get help for your scruples. Talk to your Priest about getting a Spiritual Director, who’ll be able to help you.

Scruples seems like a form of OCD. It may be worth checking that out.

Make an appointment with your pastor or a trusted confessor, as well as likely a mental health professional. Perhaps the priest can recommend a good therapist.

It’s not like you are running around naked. If someone else is thinking inappropriate thoughts, it is not up to us women to police the thoughts of men.

If others think inappropriate thoughts, it’s their faults. Seriously, you don’t have to worry about this. Try tucking in your shirt, if you have to.

Also talk to a priest about your scruples.

Be glad your not a plumber! Actually, they are now making shirts with longer shirt tails so they can be tucked in. Blouses, too. Check around.

Get help from a priest. This is scrupulosity or something dangerously close to it.

Mental health issue.
Please talk to your MD who can refer you.
Your level of anxiety is overwhelming your ability to cope, and you don’t actually have to live this way.
🙂
Peace 🕊️

Fie on you you people who claim the OP has a mental health problem or needs to talk to a counselor. We have all seen women fiddle with their clothes if something or another is too short or too small, and I have never seen it called a “mental health issue.”

So, OP, get longer shirts. And, lots of people (hopefully everyone) realize they want to change for the better over time. Just keep doing what you can every day and don’t over analyze it.

No, I disagree. Scrupulosity is a symptom of OCD. The OP has referred to having compulsions and thoughts which are disrupting her day. There’s no harm in getting help to cope with it.

Diagnosis via chat forum. I am sure your method is foolproof and you advice will surely straighten OP out.

Unless your some sadistic electrician who likes showing their hairy behind while at work, I doubt you had any intention whatsoever of doing what you did. As the previous posters mentioned, please seek out a spiritual director for your scruples! You’ll be glad you did! 👍

Btw, if you want pants that’ll never do that, look better/more proportional, and are wayyy more comfortable, I’d highly recommend you seek out some higher rise pants.

I’m not trying to diagnose, nor would I. But it is a fact that scrupulosity is a symptom of OCD and if the OP is suffering, she doesn’t need to. That’s all.

Either way, having obsessive thoughts (she even said she thinks she has scruples and was asking about how diagnosis would work) would be a reason to get it checked out and to see a priest for some guidance.

I beg to differ. We all suffer from untwanted thoughts. They come from Satan, and I feel Satan is the one who deceives people into believing they’ve committed a sin to lead them into spiritual sloth and the sin of presumption. That’s why when we get bad thoughts we just gotta pray for the people who are involved in the thought, as well as ourselves. Turn a temptation into a good thing. Give Satan a taste of his own medicine.

Beg to differ about what? The OP needn’t have these worries, scrupulosity is not good for her, or for anyone else.

Maybe her shirt is actually too short and the problem could be solved with a shopping trip. Let’s try the easy solution first. No where does she say obsessive thoughts. It’s funny how whenever someone mentions scrupulosity, the replies go straight to “you need therapy!!!”
Anyway, God bless us all for hanging out here and trying to help.
