Extreme Unction vs Anointing of the Sick

In the rubrics of the pre-Vatican II rite of the Sacrament of Last Rites (Extreme Unction), it is intended to be given unto someone who is dying and whose purpose is to prepare that person for death. Yet in the post-Vatican II rite of the Sacrament of Last Rites (Anointing of the Sick) it is intended for the healing of a person and is not to prepare them for death, but to pray that they may be healed from their sicknesses. I could be wrong on these counts. But isn’t this true? And why was it changed?

Read James 5:16 for the original intent. As well, the Viaticum prepares us for death’s journey, and is complemented by and preceded by the Anointing, which absolves us of sin.
