I would like to start by posting Facebooks Definition of/“Policy” on hate Speech:

Facebook does not permit hate speech, but distinguishes between serious and humorous speech. While we encourage you to challenge ideas, institutions, events, and practices, we do not permit individuals or groups to attack others based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition.

Now, after reporting a couple pictures from this page facebook.com/YourJesusHoroscopeFacebook has decided to leave the pictures up:

The two that I felt violated Facebooks policy on Hate Speech were the one with the Starving Man and The Bible, and more recently the picture of the pope that refers to The Catholic Church as “a huge group of pedophiles” and “a huge cult full of child raping, lying bastards.”

Am I misunderstanding the statements made on those pictures as something other than “challending ideas”? It sure does look like an “attack (on) others based on their…relegion…”

If Im wrong please disagree, but please articulate your disagreement. If you agree, maybe multiple reports of violations against Facebook Community standards can get this hate speech off a publicly viewed page.

Sounds like hate speech to me. How did you come across that page?

I don’t have a Facebook account, so I can’t see the pictures … but if they are as you described, then I agree they should be considered “hate speech.”

Having said that, I doubt very much that the admins of Facebook will agree, since the current societal outlook seems to be that there is no such thing as “hate speech” when directed at Christians. If Christians are offended, it must be because they’re just a bunch of humorless prudes who can’t take a joke.

Just imagine for a moment if the pictures (with the same captions) were posted with gay folks as the target … they’d be taken down faster than you could blink, but against Christians … no big deal.

Still, I applaud you for reporting these items, and also for pointing out the hypocrisy of “hate speech” rules, as they are commonly applied (or not applied, as the case may be).

And thanks for allowing me a moment to rant. 😃

I agree!

I honestly don’t remember how I found it, i think it was the typical YouTube syndrome where you start looking at one thing and then you click on something else and after about three clicks you have no idea how you got there lol.

I’ve tried to stay partial on the whole deal even ignoring other plainly ignorant Christian targeted comments, but when it comes to outright hateful and false statements being made generalizing an entire Church (most attached to photoshopped pictures at that), I had to say something.

My biggest issue is that if Facebook (as a publicly traded company now too mind you) is going to post policy about what it allows and does not allow on its members pages then I think it should stick to what it says.

I find it fascinating that a company that now has to be concious of the way it runs its business (again now being publicly traded) can ignore its on policies.

…and now my time to vent as well lol, HIRE SOME LAWYERS FACEBOOK THEN MAYBE YOU CAN APPLY POLICY CORRECTLY

I’m guessing its someone completely untrained in policy writing, application and enforcement.

A joke of a business.
