I was trying to close my Facebook account and tried about every possibility—the lock icon at the top of the page has settings and options on it. Something I clicked on gave me the people who were last into my page.
Are you sure about that? I’ve never seen such an option and I thought Facebook intentionally avoided making such information available to people. There are, however, lots of advertisements on Facebook that purport to tell you who has last viewed your profile. But these advertisements just randomly pick pictures from your friend list in an attempt to entice you to click on their advertisement. They are not in any way accurate representations of who has actually looked at your profile.I was trying to close my Facebook account and tried about every possibility—the lock icon at the top of the page has settings and options on it. That would be illegal for a company to require someone to have a FB account in order to get hired, if you could prove that, go visit your local prosecuting attorney, they will press charges.Wanted to do some part time work driving for lyft. A requirement to join was that you needed a Facebook acct. Didn’t have one and do not plan on signing up.
We’ve got that here! You have Protestants arguing with Catholics, atheist arguing with Catholics, Catholics arguing with Catholics, it’s nuts!
Well then, my vote is for Pope Francis for Prom King. He is kind and loving. Best candidate ever, and I bet he would look good with a crown.Twitter is about the same…the idea that you are someone if you have “followers” is nonsense. And given its nature, Twitter is somewhat nastier with the insults. But it boils down to the same thing- it is high school for older people, and elementary school for high schoolers.
Twitter IS for high school kids and people in their early 20s and maybe some in their mid 20s, but thats about it, Im 38 and I know of NO ONE my age that uses twitter. Although im sure there are some older adults that use it, but they probably need to recognize they are too old to be using such a thing LOLTwitter is about the same…the idea that you are someone if you have “followers” is nonsense. Not in the US. There are no such laws…That would be illegal for a company to require someone to have a FB account in order to get hired, if you could prove that, go visit your local prosecuting attorney, they will press charges.
I’m less and less inclined to defend Facebook’s moral neutrality these days. I definitely agree with the notion that it’s like high school for “adults.” While it’s never exacerbated any bad feelings I have about myself, it has severely fueled some problems amongst my family and friends and the behavior of others on there contributed to us cutting ties with one side of my family. I think the sheen of anonymity it has encourages shallow, inconsiderate people to be even more shallow and inconsiderate. At the same time, it seems to have empowered a lot of the people like this that we know to act even more like that in person, which makes matters exponentially worse. On Facebook, you can just block them. In real life, to avoid that treatment you have to avoid them entirely.I’m partly being sarcastic…
My brothers and my sister are on Facebook and want me to be on it so we can stay in touch easier. It does help, because we all have different schedules and live far away. But for me, being so alone and poor and basically a failure at life, it is one of the worst things in the world.
When I first got on FB I thought it was a place where you could be social- meet old friends, make new friends. But in reality it is high school for “adults”. Everyone puts up flattering pictures of themselves and their families just to get comments. They post pictures of what they have, or the great places they went, and so forth. They show super happy couples in love.
I have done nothing in life, and I have nothing to crow about. My FB cover photo is blank, my profile picture is blank. I try not to say anything because all my 15 “friends” are too busy to comment. That’s because they have lives.
Facebook is depressing, and exacerbates all the bad things I ever thought of myself.
Does anyone else have this problem? Feel like you’ve wasted your life when you look at FB?
I think it is a fad.Facebook has the potential to be an excellent tool for evangelization. It’s a great way of keeping touch with old friends, a great way of organizing events (such as benefits), and a great way to communicate if one is in a new city without friends or bed-ridden. It’s a possible occasion of lust, anger, vanity, and envy, though it forbids nudity, fighting on FB is rare and limited to certain segments of society, and my friends’ successes in life inspire more joy than envy.
I don’t think it’s “just a fad”. It’s been around for 10 years, which is a long time in the technology world, and has attracted almost 1.2 billion members - an enormous swath of humanity. Myspace was just a fad; Facebook is not.
Personally, I like Facebook. It’s helped me through my cancer journey.
I have an account on Twitter, too. It’s far inferior to Facebook, but quite convenient for brief snippets of news.
That is much different than FB, an artist can be timeless if they appeal to a large enough audience.“A flash in the pan” “A fad”, “forgotten in a year or two”----------------What my Dad said about Elvis.
How did that play out?
