I’m well under 50 (less than half of 50) and use Facebook like many of my peers, but I don’t understand where all this hatred towards a social media site is coming from.
Facebook is a very useful tool if properly used. It has so many functions that can be really handy, such as connecting with old friends, keeping up with acquaintances that are near or far, sharing photos with friends and family, following groups or organizations that one is involved or interested in, etc (the list goes on). I also used it quite a bit in college to connect with my classmates, and sometimes my professors even used it to post assignments or events pertaining to my classes.
It appears that the reason people are anti-Facebook is because they don’t take advantage of its usefulness. If you have nothing to do on Facebook rather than look at people’s profiles on your news feed and feel bad because their posts show how great their lives are, then fine, get rid of your account, but don’t demean the entire site. If you find pages, or groups, on Facebook that stand for things that you find offensive, then tough. It’s a social network, and people voice opinions, politically correct or otherwise. You can even tailor your profile to block certain pages.
I understand why some people don’t feel the need to use Facebook, but there’s no reason to slander the entire social network. It’s like how older people used to scoff at cellphones (some still do I’m sure) simply because they weren’t used to them or didn’t know how to use them, stating they were unnecessary.
Anyway’s, sorry for the long post. Peace.
