He did what he needed to do; he died on the cross with Jesus, and died to himself in the process.

That’s what we all have to do, each in our own way.
Good point !! The first Martyr for his faith ?

No … John the Baptizer was first !!

Provided we stay in His Hand. We can always choose to leave his hand, and walk back into secular world. Scripture is clear on this … Prodigal Son story confirms it.

Life also demonstrates many have walked away after having their house cleaned of all demons, ----- only to invite in 7 more evil spirits worse than at their first, … and their last state is worse than their first !!!
I have to admit, I am really feeling fascinated by hearing possible interpretations of Scripture. But you yourself must realize that this is not getting us anywhere if you just give possible interpretations of Scripture, yes? Because at the end of the day, you nor I have the authority to say which is the correct interpretation.

IF you are truly concerned about your salvation and making sure that you really get the message of Christ, is it reasonable to engage in such a methodology where you read and assume Christ will help you to arrive at the best interpretation? Who are you or I to assume that Christ must help us arrive at the best interpretation? Especially, if the Catholic Church were indeed the authority give by Christ, what makes you think that he would be pleased to see us trying to self designate ourselves as authority on interpreting Scripture or formulating requirements on what Christ should do (help us individually)?

Romans 8:1 though it is the first verse in a new chapter, it actually starts with a Therefore. It therefore needs to be considered as a conclusion to reasoning of Romans 7:25.
After Paul met Jesus on the road to damascus then stayed with the other Apostles for a short while hearing all about Jesus and got baptised being filled with the holy spirit…I see in scripture that Paul went away from the rest of the Apostles 3 years Gal 1:18…
Then there was a period of 14 years Gal 2:1…2 Cor 12. Then later he wrote his letters

I think in Romans 7 Paul was explaining a period of time with his struggle with the flesh and Romans 8 Paul was explaining the solution to his struggle.

!!
Dismas was never a martyr since he was receiving the just punishment for his crimes, as he himself admitted. But he certainly became a Saint in those moments on the cross with Jesus.

I can’t speak for you … but, YES … the HS does help us arrive at the truth. Scripture is replete with testimony to this fact.
You make mistake to think that Protestants are w/o insights on scripture. As general rule, they know them much better than the Catholics.

So let me assume the best possible about a Protestant. i.e. That every Protestant can recite the entire Bible (well 66 books of it at least) by memorization.

The issue however has nothing to do with that. Even if I can memorize and remember an entire Physics textbook, it does not mean that I can be sure I know physics. This is why students who know the text inside out still do bad when they do the final exam and get things wrong. That is actually why Professors have problem sets for students to practice before the exam and not just have them read the text and know the theorems.

In other words, sometimes the student just has a misconceived view and honestly think that they are right about what a certain theorem means. To bring them down to earth, they need that final exam where they come to actually understand the material. Or they need to do problems and see if they arrive at the same solution as the Professor.

The same goes for the faith. You know your Bible inside out which is good. But unless you know how to interpret, or what the correct interpretation is, it is untested conclusions from that knowledge. But you have raised that untested knowledge and conclusions to the level of certainty and you want to challenge the authority. That is impossible since we are speaking specifically of supernatural truths. So to challenge would mean that you have directly verified or had a direct revelation from God himself. Is that the case? If not, then you have no choice but to either
  1. Reject Christianity
    or
  2. Accept the Church

Persevere in Faith doing a Good work of Faith. 1 Thess and 2 Thess
Agreed. The previous verse (Matthew 24:12) says that the love of many will grow cold. So a mental verbal baptismal acceptance of Jesus Christ is not sufficient for salvation by itself although it is certainly a good place to start on a lifelong journey.
