ROME, MARCH 30, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The sins of men will never obfuscate the beauty of the Church, the Italian National Committee of Renewal in the Spirit has affirmed in an official response to the scandal of sexual abuse.

With a communiqué from last Sunday, signed by the president of the Italian committee, Salvatore Martinez, the Renewal in the Spirit group offered its guidance to those “disoriented” by reports of the sex abuse scandal.

Martinez reiterated “profound affection and spiritual closeness” to Benedict XVI, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, president of the Italian episcopal conference, and to “all the pastors of the Church challenged in the exercise of truth.”

The group affirmed that the “sins of men of the Church” are unable to “disfigure the beauty and divine mission of the Church.”

*The Church will always be Christ’s gift to us…and we are all sinners. I think as I read the articles, and have a variety of feelings over it all…relating to the scandals…I’m poignantly reminded that a Savior came to die for each of our sins, so we might ALL have eternal life. I pray for our Church, and that believers don’t turn away from the Church, because of the sins of mankind. It reminds me too, that when we all sin, we hurt the Church…our sins might not make the front page of the NYT, but they are sins, just the same. :o

Prayers. :gopray:*

This is an excellent point. The Church remains beautiful. It is the men who have taken over who have sullied it in the eyes of far too many. Let us pray the the Church will expose and expel the miscreants who have been guilty of sexual abuse of children and those in the hierarchy who have not only condoned such travesties but have aided and abetted them through both action and inaction.
