I have only your anonymous and unsupported word for it. As far as I’m concerned that puts it in the category of ‘alleged’.
Oh, one more thing about Americans. On some sites, and CAF is definitely one of them, personal insults like “clueless” are not permitted. I don’t report people for things like that, but there’s always a first time.

So, are you saying then that closing the embassy really is intended as a slap to the Church, and for political reasons?

I personally believe it is a combination of issues. I also believe the Irish handled it brilliantly, given the overall picture. I think the sex scandal is an issue; I find it amazing that it is almost universally ignored in this thread. Ireland is having huge financial problems. Closing the embassy has the effect of saving money, sending a message to the Vatican, and keeping diplomatic ties (through the embassy in Rome) all at the same time…brilliant politics.

Perhaps brilliant from one perspective, and clearly the current Irish government feels the Catholic Church in Ireland is so weakened that the government can downgrade its relationship and still remain sufficiently popular (perhaps more popular). If so, that says a lot about present-day Ireland.

Either that, or they are utterly intolerant of the child abuse issue. As another poster mentioned, it’s the white elephant in the room…it can’t be ignored. Nothing other than strong action should be tolerated with regard to this matter.

No need to feel terrible, BlueSapphire - you wrote honestly and gave your opinion of the situation as you see it as another Irish person. I see it differently. Nothing wrong with a difference of informed opinion 🙂 Thank you for the prayers.
I am sorry to hear that you are terminaly ill, I have plenty of experience of close family relatives, including my late mother dying whilst I was a child from terminal illnesses at young ages. I understand that the reactions to such horrible news are varied and everyone copes as best they can as a result.

However I still don’t think personal insults are a fair way to proceed. I have a sardonic and nasty tongue of my own at times and I can be quite acerbic here. But on the odd occassion I have stepped over into discussing the person rather than their comments it has made me feel guilty about doing so when I considered the matter later

And for the record: I don’t feel the slightest trace of guilt for my comments.

looks like your right ridgerunner, germany has shown it’s true colours.it has told everyone including France who running the show
now it WILL set tax rates and rules for the rest the only thing in question is how long it takes for them to obtain full control.
