It happens once in a while…I somtimes feel comforted by it, somtimes I feel guilt over it… I just wonder what others feel? Is it a weakness or a blessing?

I have heard that there are special graces given to those who fall asleep while praying the Rosary.

I have prayed the rosary all my life. Me and my eight brothers and sisters all learned it very young. Falling asleep was something that happened pretty often! Mother and Grandma taught us that when we fall asleep, Mary finishes it for us. We learned that Mary **always knows ** when we are praying, and she finishes it if we fall asleep. Later I was taught that if we fall asleep, then the proper thing to do would be to continue when we wake up and if we don’t remember where we left off, start again. It’s up to you, however you would like to do it.
:yup:

TRUE. That reminds me of the day I got pulled over on HWY 287 to Dallas a couple of years ago. I guess I was so involved in praying the rosary that I didn’t notice I was speeding! Well Thanks to God I got pulled over, and the officer just gave me a warning ticket. I told him I was sorry I was speeding, I had been praying the rosary and I showed it to him, so he “forgave” me for speeding and told me to be careful so I could reach my desting safely! I should not pray the rosary while I drive. :tsktsk:

I say the rosary at night before bed. It helps to clear my mind and wind down. So I fall asleep during the rosary alot. Sometimes I catch myself dozing off several times in one night!! I never truly worry about it, I just pray what I can. I have broke a rosary that way - I fall asleep with it in my hands then toss and turn all night with it.

Hello;
My mother and I have talked about this many times and she feels bad when she falls asleep while praying the rosary. It reminds her of when Christ was in the garden and asked the apostles to stay awake while he went to pray to His father, he found them asleep twice and was angry they could not do this simple thing why he was suffering, sweating blood. We decided the end of the day isn’t a good time for most of us, we’re tired, so we pray the rosary early in the day. In the car as well but say it along on Catholic Radio outloud. This has worked for us.

Two words: cruise control.

I fall asleep with a rosary cd playing all night. Father always tells the children that if they start the rosary and fall asleep while praying the angels will finish their rosary.

I often fall asleep while praying the rosary and also heard that if one falls alseep while praying the rosary, our guardian angel finishes it for us.

Rosaries are great for insomnia. I rarely if ever can finish through an entire rosary while trying to fall asleep but that probably had to do with the fact that I am praying to fall asleep.

I think I only finished the Rosary once this past week - been very busy and tired… 😉

Firstly Jesus isn’t suffering any more, secondly he obviously forgave them for their human frailty after the resurrection - and they did much worse things than just falling asleep! Having said that, I get up a bit early and pray five decades first thing when I wake up to start the day off right. That way if I’m too tired at night I don’t feel like I have to force myself to pray it.

There is nothing wrong with falling asleep while praying the Rosary. Just like a baby falls asleep contentedly in his mother’s arms, the one falling asleep while praying the Rosary is falling asleep in his Blessed Mother’s arms.

I love that analogy of falling asleep in our mother Mary’s arms.

When falling asleep during the rosary, I always think about what it’s like to fall asleep during Adoration or anytime when I’m in Jesus’ presence…it’s like falling asleep in His arms, or, with the Rosary, in Mary’s arms…I can’t imagine anything more peaceful:)

There is a series running on EWTN about Thomas Moore. I guess he’s St. Thomas Moore. If I understand correctly, he was executed for his opposition to the problems in the Anglican church in England.

Last night Dr. Wegemer of some college in Dallas mentioned a book that Thomas Moore wrote about the agony in the garden. Moore offered analyses of those short exchanges between Jesus and the apostles. There’s really quite a lot of meaning in them. But, nothing stuck with me. It seemed really interesting at the time.

Its funny that this topic came up. I try to say the rosary every day, I also say it when I’m trying to go to sleep. Its weird, during the day I’m revitalized by it, at night its comforting and helps me to relax (I usually end up only saying two decades before falling asleep). I can’t think of a more perfect way to end my day though. 🙂

I pray the rosary every evening when I walk home from work. Sometimes I say it in bed AND I have fallen asleep doing it. It brings to mind my 5th grade nun.She told us if we either put our rosary UNDER our pillow OR fall asleep holding it, we would go to heaven if we were to die in our sleep. She’s the same reason I make the sign of the cross on my pillow every night since then…so I’ll be sure to go to heaven
Can you tell I went to Catholic school in the 50’s and 60’s ??
