It’s been a little while since a post was made:) So my question for today is:

What are some fun, slightly different from the ordinary, ideas for a date night? Something creative (not too expensive).

Also, if you feel like sharing your personal favorite date thus far:)
Well, this isn’t at all creative but we love it. We eat at a TexMex storefront cafe in town, and sit facing the window and watch people parade past.

Dinner and a floor show for under twenty bucks. Can’t beat it with a stick.

Well - a bit lame perhaps, but here are a couple:

We will turn off everything - phones, tv, computers. Pour some nice wine and settle in on the living room floor for a ripping game of Trivial Pursuit. 😃 We have mixed up my American questions with his British ones and it’s always a laugh when I get one of his and have absolutely no clue what it’s talking about. Even with the mixed cards, he still usually kicks my butt though. These are some of my favorite evenings of ours.

When we were in England recently, we were staying in a nice B&B in Whitby. We were obviously eating out every single meal for most of the two weeks (except when we were staying with friends), and it was getting a bit old. So we went to all the little shops in town and bought fresh bread, fresh cheese and ham, some ginger cake, a small bottle of brandy with some lemons and honey to make warm drinks. It was such an adventure finding everything without just going to a grocery store. We spread everything out on my little traveling blanket and had a picnic in the middle of our room while we talked about our travels and small talk. It was just so sweet and perfect. It would be so easy to do this at home too I would think. Just turn off the world and have a picnic in your own bedroom. 🙂

it turned out to be more of a we-hate-kids-and-think-no-one-should-have-any deal.
I think there really are plenty of people with this attitude, but I have found that a lot of people disguise their hurt over not being able to conceive with an outward disdain for children.

Perhaps, but it’s also possible simply to dislike 'em. I don’t begrudge people their children or their love for them, but I’ve often encountered people who believe that it’s simply not conceivable that anyone could fail to find the company of children–particularly theirs–delightful, and that anyone who fails to do so must be either faking it or sublimating. It’s one thing to find a couple’s feelings wrong or deplorable; it’s another thing to say that they must not really have them.

Fact is, though, my hats are off to the people who love and cherish their children, rear them properly, and know what to do with them–can’t say that we’d answer that description if we had children, but then we know our limitations. (Would that every couple did!)

Interesting. I never looked at it through that lens, but I suspect only a very few were unable to conceive----they talked of, well, things that were just WTMI for me.

I mean, they didn’t even want kids appearing in public. How dare someone with children take them to a restaurant, where they might have to LOOK at them, or worse, hear them!

Another family of 2 here. We’ve been married 31+ years and raised my 2 children (from previous marriage). They’re both married & gone so it’s us & the dogs, a pug (hard of hearing) and a rottie.
DH will retire in 7 weeks. I will retire in 2 yrs.!😦 We hope to sell our house and get an RV and travel. So look for us on your doorstep someday!

Peace,
Linda

Still here! DH and I are trying to get me through this semester with my sanity intact, and then we’re bracing for the holidays. Somehow I don’t think we’re going to meet our goal of having all Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving, not unless I do a major blitz over the next two weeks. I hate shopping…

raises hand Still here, too!

Have cousins coming in for Thanksgiving—and no dining room table.

We are also a family of 2! DH will be graduating college in may, God willing. So we’re hoping to try making it a family of 3 or more this summer:D

Scattered about, among the larger families, and the families of two, are what I suppose we might call the families of one.

The families of one are singles, widows, and divorced folks. Some have offspring. Some do not. We are both old and young.

I have been a family of one since finishing school, nearly 35 years ago. We may be relatively invisible, but there are quite a few of us.

Please remember that families come in all shapes and sizes, and that some of us are all by ourselves, a family of one.

Magickman,

This thread was not started to say families of two were better than others, only as a way of creating community for those who were married without dependent children. If you want a thread for families of one, you should start one. It might help you feel less invisible.

(mom of a family of two – me and my beautiful son – but this thread isn’t for me either 😃 )

We’re a family of two. My husband I got married in December. Even though there are only two of us, the house has five people. We live with three of his sisters. No one is home on the weekends except us, though.
