My cousin and his wife have two children, as do my husband and I. We agree on so many aspects of parenthood- attachment parenting, breastfeeding, natural birthing, gentle but firm discipline, healthy foods, outdoor play before video games…all the basic things.
Or so I thought. Recently the wife has posted several things on her facebook account that made me realize that she is not just “prochoice” but actively proabortion. She linked a news article about a female politician who made a statement about having had an abortion in her early life, “because she just wasn’t ready to have a child.” Which turned my stomach in and of itself. But the wife’s comment was worse. Finally! she wrote. It’s been weighing so hard on my heart to realize that she was HAPPY that this stranger wanted to kill her baby for her own convenience.
Then just a week later, she made her own review of the movie coming out wherein the main character has an abortion. Wife’s review? “best movie I’ve seen in ages. A long time coming”.
I know they aren’t church goers, and I’ve always recognized that was a huge gap in our lifestyles. But I think now I’m understanding that the proabortion folks out there aren’t just faceless… they are in fact sometimes women, mothers, who simply don’t see the disgusting contradiction between fighting desperately for the health and safety of their own kids and being perfectly happy to have other kids be killed on a daily basis.
Please Lord, forgive us all. We are drowning in this culture of death. I’m so sad by this tonight.
