Someone can correct me if I’m wrong—but it was my understanding Saginaw didn’t have ANY seminarians before Bishop Carlson came—and that the last ordination was back like in 2000 or so. There had been a lot of men from this diocese who felt a calling over the years but Bishop Untener refused to ordain them. A lot of them went to other dioceses. Rumors abounded that Bishop Untener didn’t want to ordain any priests until he could ordain women (Bishop Untener himself vigorously denied this.) More likely is that Bishop Untener refused to ordain any priest who didn’t share his liberal interpretation of how to implement “the spirit of Vatican II.”How many seminarians did Saginaw have before Bishop Carlson came on the scene? Did Saginaw have many ordinations before he arrived?
