LOUISVILLE, KY (Catholic Online) – The head of the company internationally known as a food-food chicken vendor has made an appeal to Pope Benedict XVI to bless its new fish offering.

In a statement released Feb. 18, Ash Wednesday, KFC said its president, Gregg Dedrick, sent a personal letter to the pope asking for a papal blessing for the KFC’s new Fish Snacker Sandwich, noting that the fast-food item “is ideal for American Catholics who want to observe Lenten season traditions while still leading their busy, modern lifestyles.”

While the idea is nice, if kinda goofy, methinks KFC will need an awful lot of blessings to make any of their food anything less than revolting fat-salt-and-sugar pills.

Ohhh that fillet -o fish is my big treat. I eat one a few times a year because it’s so loaded with fat, though I savor every bite.

If you ask me I don’t think penance and clogged arteries go hand-in-hand, especially if KFC dips their fish in the same gross heart-attack inducing stuff they do their chicken. This is mearly a corporate ploy to win business from Catholics, and I’m not buying.
