Second, most of your arguments regarding morality and law are based on your mistaken belief that morality derives only from religion. It might interest you to know that most of Christian morality derives from Greek and Roman Stoicism, which itself predates Christianity and coincided with it. There is morality without religion.
Where do you think the ancient Greeks got their morality from? Did they invent right and wrong?

First, if you read the thread rather than letting your emotions guide your arguments, you will see that I’m not the one who made the first use of the term “mental midgets”.

Even Scripture, which we Christians believe is divinely inspired, states that it is possible to know the great truths of the moral law without special revelation because what can be know is written on the face of the created universe where it can be freely discerned.

You are all being misled by groups with special interests. There are many valid opinions within the Catholic Church about voting. There is no one easily-defined way to vote, and I don’t think Fr Corapi and his kind represent what the Roman Catholic Church says about voting. Nor is EWTN the same thing as the Church itself. EWTN speaks for itself, not for the Church. They only represent one particular faction within the U.S. It’s a complex choice which must balance a number of different factors. If you don’t believe me, you can read this for yourselves:

I am probably the only one who hadn’t seen this paticular episode of Father Corapi. But last night he was talking about Catholic politicians who support abortions…

…Father Corapi said as long as abortion is the “law” of the land in this country God is going to take his vengence out on this country. He said eventually it will come down to a nuclear attack in Los Angeles. He said 9/11 was just a wakeup call for what is going to happen next if we don’t stop abortions.
Then by this reasoning we are as doomed by our God as we are by insanely misguided Islamic terrorists?!?. God would mete out “justice” against the innocent as well as the guilty?!?! This type of rhetoric is false, unproductive and turns off far more people than it ever persuades. I would have expected better from Fr. Corapi but perhaps I should give the benefit of the doubt to him as these are not his exact words but a 3d party re-telling.
He said that any Catholic politician that publically supports abortion and goes and receives the Blessed Sacarament needs to be rebuked in public. He said if someone sins in private then they can go to private confession. But if someone commits the gravest of all possible sins in public as Catholic politicians who support abortion do they need to confess and be rebuked and public.

He said politicians that support abortion have ex-communicated themselves from the Church and no action by the Bishop is necassary! Again there was lots of clapping for that.

He then said with all due respect to the Bishops, who he said have very tough jobs, but along with the awesome job of being a bishop comes an even more awesome responsibility. The bishops have to start dealing with these Catholic politicians who support abortion.

He said** he doesn’t know if he would refuse the Blessed Sacarament to a Catholic Politician who supported abortion**. He said he would hope he didn’t recognize them in the line. He said he knows some priests and bishops have refused them Communion and those people are brave and courageous but the point of the matter is this should be dealt with before it gets to the point of being in the Communion line!
WHAT?!?! He rants about us all (apparently guily along with the innocent) being in God’s crosshairs, de facto public sinners, automatic excommunication for pro-choice politicians, courage, responsibility by the Church’s leadership…and then actually says he doesn’t know if he himself could refuse communion to the same public, excommunicated sinners he just ranted about?!?! What gives?

“A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate’s permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia. When a Catholic does not share a candidate’s stand in favor of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons.”

And your point is? Whatever I base my beliefs on I thank God that I can tell the difference between right and wrong. It’s really that basic, why cloud the issue?

You are all being misled by groups with special interests.
Like you and Klanned Parenthood, National Organization of (unborn child hating) women?
So why do you support the dehumanization of the unborn? Is there hatred here?

If one is not alive, nothing else matters. No other political issue matters, for if you’re dead, you can’t participate in any political benefits. Not one.

Also, allowing the dehumanization of the unborn WILL result in others being dehumanized. That is guaranteed. If that door is open, it will open other doors. Like infanticide (Peter Singer, 1993) and the killing of the disabled (Terri Schiavo)

Dehumanizing one, dehumanizes everyone.

So you’re unable to refute the points made against you, just say so. I didn’t operate under emotion, I operated under logic and rational thinking. I believe you may be projecting.

Morality derives from God, not necessarily religion. The Church of Atheism’s morality is junk. So is the Church of Satanism’s system of morality.

Sorry that I attributed the mental midgets quote to you. However, it was not out of emotion, but rather to not reading the whole thread.

One important thing about the article you refer to above is that it is from the National Catholic Reporter, which is a very …unorthodox.… source.

If I was calculating how closely EWTN versus the Reporter (aka National Catholic Distorter) adheres to dogma, doctrine, and teaching of the Church, EWTN wins hands down. EWTN’s positions are closer to Rome, the Pope and the Magesterium than the frequently dissenting NCR.

Starling, we are certainly obligated to end the slaughter of innocent babies and the maiming of their mothers! If rape were legal, I suppose you wouldn’t rape anyone and merely tell your buddies not to do it?
You say in effect, ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’ That is the answer of Cain to God when God asked him where his brother Abel was whom Cain had just murdered. Despicable and uncharitable is what you are when you advocate that we not try and make abortion illegal!!!
The purpose of government is to protect its citizens, especially the helpless. Separation of church and state is a myth. It is not to be found in our Constitution.

We must use our vote to help the most helpless that is, unborn babies and embryonic babies. I have brothers who are poor and living in the ghetto and they are not helpless, like an unborn child is. It is there own choice.
Republicans have cut funds for forced abortions in China among other things. The Democrats in the Congress think our taxes should be used to forcably abort mothers!!! If that doesn’t show the true totalitarian colors of the Democrats, I don’t know what does. Sen. Feinstein who pushes to fund these crimes thinks Chinese women are cattle, obviously.

Catholics need to enter into local Republican politics and you wil see more such. Many already have. Santorum is a good example. My son’s godfather is a State House representative and doing good. He was elected State House Minority leader. and knowing him and his family, it is because they are honest, hrad-working and fight against abortion and homosexual marriage and all that. People respect them for their lived principles, even the other politicians.

As far as I can tell, even the Vatican does not say that voters should consider abortion as the only issue. Those of you who are doing so are following private opinion, even if it comes from a celebrity priest. Republicans have controlled congress for the most part since 1994. Anything been done to curb abortion yet? I am not pro-abortion, far from it. However, I am also not pro-war, pro-imperialism, pro-rich and powerful, pro-rape the environment, pro-global warning, pro-oil. Doesn’t your vote for these manipulating politicians only end up doing nothing for abortion and everything the above? Have you not learned your lesson yet? Do you need to be hit over the head with a jackhammer? Issues are simple to the simple-minded. There is no obligation to vote for someone based on manipulation by cynical hypocrites. If you use your God-given reason, you may find it’s you committing the sin, not me or others like me.
Are you saying that, except for abortion, the other party will eliminate all of our problems? They will ensure gay marriage is equal to married man and woman. They will increase the taxes again, which only hurt the poor whom depend on the rich for their work. How many Blue States have not changed their state minimum wage laws? In Florida, Red State, the minimum wage, effective I Jan will be $6.67 an hour; not $5.15. Why do they support Abortion of the underage without their parents approval? Why do they allow the brains to be sucked out of a 7 or 8 month old baby? Yes I can worry about my social security, my property taxes, my gas prices, my, my, my, but what is the true evil?

Also, Democrats now officially endorse homosexual marriage and the thwarting of any and all marriage protection amendments, as well as abortion through the whole nine months of pregnancy. I’m sorry, for a party to officially advocate for such positions is beyond the pale. I will never vote for a Democrat. A pro-life Democrat has to vote party line when it comes to judicial nominations to the Supreme Court. We don’t need any more monsters like Justice Blackmun was.

Monsters they are. I once spoke with a noble lady who spent one summer during WWII on a beautiful yacht hobnobbing with Hermann Goering and his daughters. According to her, Goering was quite charming, personable and such a gentleman and his daughters so nice. But he participated in the slaughter of milllions of people on a grand scale.

Father Corapi is - as always - 100% correct in his teachings. When he stops preaching I don’t think anyone is going to be able to fill his shoes. I just wish his CD’s were available at the library or not so expensive.

The lastest generation of U.S. seminarians and young clergy is apparently very orthodox from several of the ravings by Catholic media (Catholic Answers Live and OSV). I have a feeling Ft. Corapi was a huge influence on them.

You can either be a part of the illness or a part of the medicine and Father Corapi is like a big dose of antibiotics, clearing up some nasty infections in the Church.

The Catholic Church (Body of Christ) is in the process purging itself of bad influences (Unorthodoxy & Unorthopraxy) and is going to start drawing more to the One, True Church.

This is from another thread about Father Corapi:

There is only one program from Father Corapi regarding the Easter Triduum. He protects his sermons and sells them not that I blame him just wish I had more money to buy them.

Thanks though.

Does anyone know what happened to the latest Father Corapi thread? It’s been wiped away and I was just wondering why. The person who started it was negative, but I’d been following it up to last night and didn’t see anything so bad that it should be wiped off the face of the forum.

It is not fair that everybody knows about Kamagra, Cialis Super Active worked perfectly for me and moreover it is less expensive and easier to find. I almost have not experienced any side effects, at least those severe to make sex impossible. Works like a charm and of course viagra super active.

Please remove the thread above me—it is an advertisment for Viagra!
