Isn’t it horribly obvious when somebody doesn’t REALLY believe in church teaching on abortion? I mean come ON! Do you believe that that tiny life inside the mother is a human or not?

If you do, then think what you are saying! Change the class of person in question here. What if it were 1 million helpless Mexican immigrants who were being murdered every year? Mass groups of vigilantes roamed the streets at night killing any they found. Say the Republicans half-heartedly opposed this action, but the Democrats actively supported it, funded the militia groups, provided free ammo in school clinics, etc… No other differences from today’s politics.

Bet you wouldn’t vote Democrat then! The only difference is that you ACTUALLY believe that Mexicans are real human beings possessing an inherent right to life. For the unborn, not so much…

As far as I can tell, even the Vatican does not say that voters should consider abortion as the only issue.
Wrong !
Those of you who are doing so are following private opinion, even if it comes from a celebrity priest. Republicans have controlled congress for the most part since 1994. Anything been done to curb abortion yet? I am not pro-abortion, far from it. However, I am also not pro-war, pro-imperialism, pro-rich and powerful, pro-rape the environment, pro-global warning, pro-oil. Doesn’t your vote for these manipulating politicians only end up doing nothing for abortion and everything the above? Have you not learned your lesson yet? Do you need to be hit over the head with a jackhammer? Issues are simple to the simple-minded. There is no obligation to vote for someone based on manipulation by cynical hypocrites. If you use your God-given reason, you may find it’s you committing the sin, not me or others like me.
Even if Republicans haven’t done much to curb abortion, do you think Democrats would ?? They’re worser than Republicans. Putting Democrats in power could un-do everything pro-lifers have worked for. We surely don’t want that now do we?

I don’t care what party is in power as long as they’re pro-life. If the majority happens to be Republicans, so be it. In the meantime, pro-lifers can educate people about the evil of abortion. Only then can abortion ‘law’ be overturned, not by any party, but by the people. Putting Republicans in power can be seen as buying time for pro-lifers to educate the ignorance.

I suggest that we pray that God’s will be done and not put our salvation in partisan politics. Looks like Sen. John Thune (R) and Gov. Mike Rounds (R) are silent on the stand for life and supporting the Vote Yes for Life in South Dakota. The Republican Party is silent both in the State and Nationally. Goes to show you the two facedness of the GOP. They are modern day Pharisees and Scribes, they preach pro-life, but they do not practice it. God knows if this nation will wake up in time to save itself or whether it will fall under the hands of those who preach evil as good and good as evil.

The mental midgets are those who do not have the capacity to understand the separation of Church and State. If the Catholic Church is allowed to dictate its morality on everyone by law (in unholy alliance with the right wing fundamentalist nuts who think the purpose of Christianity is to make them rich), how can you also prevent Islamic fundamentalists from imposing their morality where they are the majority? What is the protection from religious extremism for the common folk in the world, no matter what religion they are?

My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on abortion, you should advocate for individuals to not choose abortion, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it.

If we allow Churches of any stripe to dictate what the law of the land must be, then we are making the Church the government, and we may as well not have a democratic system at all. Having the Church as government has never proven to be a very desirable option at any time in history.

And then, what kind of God would deliberately kill millions of people in LA in retribution for a whole country not outlawing abortion? What kind of sick mind, clergy or not, would even suggest this?

I hope your not suggesting Father Corapi is a “mental midget”? Do you know how many degrees this man has? Or is it your habit to attack people you disagree with?
Do you recall Sodom and Gommorah?
It’s not just that we won’t outlaw abortion, we think we each are God in this country. This is a culture of death, we need to fight it with all our might.
Unfortunity people are like lambs, following blindly while one after another falls off the cliff. When we say it’s legal to kill the preborn, our ignorant, take the easy way out, society says" well it can’t be bad if the government says it’s okay". We need laws to govern our conduct, we can not be told it’s okay to kill, born or unborn. If you are pro-abortion, your thinking is such that I want you to have NOTHING to do with running my country.

Yeah, let’s continue the dehumanization of the unborn. I’m sure that the culture of death won’t try to spread it further like supporting infanticide (Peter Singer, 1993) or killing off the disabled (Terri Schiavo)

Nope. It won’t happen. Not in a million years 🙂

I tell you what. We got two supreme court justices who are pro-life, plus partial birth abortion ban passed, an executive order from day 1 forbidding government funding of abortion, and the only bill nixed by Bush was: the embryonic stem cell permission act.

Sounds like anti-abortion progress to me! And I’m not even a republican. You know John KKKerry or AlBore would never have let any of these good things happen.
There is no obligation to vote for someone based on manipulation by cynical hypocrites.
And there is no obligation to let the culture of death win.

So which left wing politician are you supporting?

Well said, Bob Catholic! You cited the legislative milestones I was thinking of to rebut Starling’s comments.

So Starling, do you honestly believe that a Democratic Congress would not actively seek to broaden the legality of abortion? You say the Republican congress has done nothing to stop it (which BobCatholic gave succesful examples of how they HAVE) but look at it from the other perspective. Do yo honestly believe a Democratic Congress would do nothing about abortion? Just leave it alone? OF COURSE NOT! It’s one of their top two agenda items!!! (The other being Iraq). They wouldn’t work to give all girls of every age the right to get an abortion at any stage of pregnancy in any state without parental consent, no questions asked, legal? Puh-lease! For someone who is against abortion, you don’t appear to have an appreciation for the danger to the unborn that a democratic controlled congress would pose. When ANYONE can defend or support politicians or lawmakers who have proven that they are foes of the unborn (“I’m personally opposed to abortion, but…” how many times have you heard ‘Catholic’, pro-choice, democratic politicians say that?!), that defender/supporter is guilty of helping that politician/lawmaker to accomplish their goal against the unborn. This is one of the 9 ways of leading others to sin that Fr. Corapi was warning against in that very same sermon.

Everything Fr. Corapi says is 100% true to the magisterium (same could be said for EWTN in general.) If you got a problem with THAT, then you got a problem ith the MAGISTERIUM!

The Democratic party bows down and worships at the altar of the culture of death. They are enslaved to the looney left who run the joint.

The left says:
“DEHUMANIZE THE UNBORN!”
The Democratic Party says:
Yes…master…@_@ ← eyes spinning from being brainwashed

The left says:
“DEHUMANIZE THE DISABLED!!”
The Democratic Party says:
Yes…master…@_@ ← eyes spinning from being brainwashed

The republican party are not that much better, but they run rings around the democratic party in this area.

Is it possible to make a point without childish taunts like “KKKerry” or “AlBore?”

The mental midgets are those who do not have the capacity to understand the separation of Church and State.
If you review the 1st Amendment, it (like the other 9 in the Bill of Rights) is a restriction on the role of the government, and not on the people. The government is not establishing a religion by attempting to outlaw abortion.

I would suggest researching the 1st a bit more before condemning others as mental midgets, which is a bit uncharitable.

Agreed. Seperation of Church and state is not seperation of morality of state as some want it to be.

It is not childish taunts. It is a reflection of reality.

Kerry hates the unborn, and is for their slaughter. Thus his name should be equated with bigotry, and spelled with three K’s. Same thing with bigots like Farahkhan, Kissling, Kennedy

Al Gore is, frankly, boring. I could call him something else that reflects his bigotry against the unborn as well. But I haven’t thought of a good name for him 🙂

I’m tired of left wing politicians scoring big points with the public by distilling their beliefs into small soundbites. I’m merely fighting fire with fire.

The mental midgets are those who do not have the capacity to understand the separation of Church and State
Yup. There are those who think it means separation of morality and state, or that the Church of Atheism is to become the official state religion.
I’d ask what is the protection from religious extremists who are the minority, namely atheists who want to establish atheism as the official state religion and have been warring against any sign of the Christian religion on government property for 40+ years? Nothing, apparently. That’s why they are so successful.
My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on abortion, you should advocate for individuals to not choose abortion, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it.
Let’s take your argument and just change ONE WORD - namely other moral issues:

*My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on racism, you should advocate for individuals to not choose racism, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it. * (so, would you support the dismantling of civil rights laws then?)

*My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on stealing, you should advocate for individuals to not choose stealing, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it. *(So would you support the dismantling of theft laws?)

My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on murder, you should advocate for individuals to not choose murder, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it.
(So would you support the dismantling of murder laws?)

Sounds like you’re advocating the seperation of morality and state. When it was OK to dehumanize black people, I’m sure you would be screaming for civil rights laws, marching with Martin Luther King, protesting, petitioning, and doing all kinds of political activity, to ensure the state gave full human rights to blacks… But when it is OK to dehumanize unborn children, you are nowhere to be seen. So you must believe that human rights don’t belong to all human beings. Fine. That’s your choice. So why political activity for one group based on your religious beliefs is fine, but not another? This contradiction needs to be addressed.
And then, what kind of God would deliberately kill millions of people in LA in retribution for a whole country not outlawing abortion? What kind of sick mind, clergy or not, would even suggest this?
What Catholic catechism statement says this? This sounds like something Fred Phelps would say, who is not Catholic, but I guess in your blind rage against morality, maybe it is hard to understand that.

I am a terrible debater, particularly in politics. And I am far from being a “rich evil Republican” I’m just a “conservative Republican”.

My faith and beliefs are what define me. That’s why I vote the moral issues. If voting prolife makes me a “mental midget” so be it!

By the way, Fr. Corapi has said he would make a terrible parish priest. He said we would all tire of him every week - I for one would love for him to be in our parish every week:thumbsup: No disrespect to our current pastor.

Is there a more extreme position than legalizing the slaughter of the unborn?

“Catholic” moral law is by no means grounded in some idea that God handed down a set of irrational commandments on tables of stone. It is based on the rational and dispassionate observation of the created universe. The rules of moral behavior rest upon the Natural Law as understood by rational man.

Where the Christian part comes in is in the belief that human beings have as part of their “nature” a divinely infused immortal soul, which places them on an entirely different plane from the rest of the animal kingdom.
My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on abortion, you should advocate for individuals to not choose abortion, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it.
Catholics do support those who have chosen not to abort their children.
If we allow Churches of any stripe to dictate what the law of the land must be, then we are making the Church the government, and we may as well not have a democratic system at all. Having the Church as government has never proven to be a very desirable option at any time in history.
A supposedly “democratic” system of government which places the will of the people above the good of the people, and above the protection of the innocent, is not a democracy but the institutionalization of mob rule.
And then, what kind of God would deliberately kill millions of people in LA in retribution for a whole country not outlawing abortion? What kind of sick mind, clergy or not, would even suggest this?
As others have mentioned, this was apparently a misquote from the poster and not what Fr. Corapi actually said. Judging from his other work, this does not look like something that he would say. Something has undoubtedly been lost in translation.

The Church is not dictating arbitrary moral norms. She teaches what is true for all people. If the Church says chattel slavery is wrong does that mean we ought not listen to Her? Abortion is not a Church discipline that binds only Catholics. It is wrong for all people everywhere and in every age.
My view is that if you’re a Catholic and you support the Church position on abortion, you should advocate for individuals to not choose abortion, rather than trying to make the State outlaw it.
Why? Should we have laws against bank robbery or murder? I mean is it acceptable to be pro choice on bank robbery?
If we allow Churches of any stripe to dictate what the law of the land must be, then we are making the Church the government, and we may as well not have a democratic system at all. Having the Church as government has never proven to be a very desirable option at any time in history.
This is a false charge.

First, if you read the thread rather than letting your emotions guide your arguments, you will see that I’m not the one who made the first use of the term “mental midgets”.

Second, most of your arguments regarding morality and law are based on your mistaken belief that morality derives only from religion. It might interest you to know that most of Christian morality derives from Greek and Roman Stoicism, which itself predates Christianity and coincided with it. There is morality without religion.

And then, what kind of God would deliberately kill millions of people in LA in retribution for a whole country not outlawing abortion? What kind of sick mind, clergy or not, would even suggest this?
A common ploy of the devil is an attempt to turn the tables on God (and His faithful followers) by false accusations and misconceptions, of course, always with an element of truth to cloak the deception tactics.

The devil’s lie: “…what kind of God would deliberately kill millions of people …”.

The devil’s lie exposed: By seducing masses into believing a lie and legislating the murder of the innocent, the devil has accomplished the strategic offensive of reducing/removing the protection of God against evil attacks (ex., terrorism) and natural or man made calamities. The objective laws of God’s justice and just as real and palpable as His laws of matter, i.e., you jump off a 10 story building, gravity squashes you.

“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8: 44
