Father's day gift ideas...I'm drawing a blank

*I need some help with gift ideas for my dh, for Father’s Day. My dd mentioned this NHL bundle, but it seems kind of silly to spend $76 plus s&h on basically a shirt, hat, puck, and dvd? I could buy those separately, and leave out the puck and hat for cheaper.

I remember when the Steelers won the superbowl a few years ago, and Sports Illustrated had a one year subscription + package for a good rate, but I checked their site, and doesn’t seem like they have anything for the Stanley Cup. :rolleyes:

Our anniversary was only a few weeks ago, and I bought my dh a watch…he bought himself a lof ot clothes recently…so, not sure what to get. I thought of a GPS system for the car, but my kids think he won’t use it much–he likes to be lost, I guess. :rotfl:

I thought of golf clubs, he was never really a golfer until we moved to FL, and he has been taking lessons from a good friend who golfs a lot.

Ugh, not sure not sure…any ideas? *
 
Going to climb up on my little soapbox.

Your kids are old enough to earn some $$ and pick out Father’s Day gifts for dad.

You pick out gifts for Anniversary, Birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s, Saint’s Day, any other just because day - but, leave Father’s Day to his kids.
 
Never thought of that… I always get my wife something for mother’s day because she is the mother of my children… they get her something as well. I would expect the same for father’s day as I am the father of her children (or I better be! j/k they all look just like me…)

Is your husband gone much on travel? I never thought about it until recently but I was thinking of asking for a couple of webcams so that we could chat if I’m traveling.

They will of course use some of their money, but dh and I always help them with the picking, and buying.

*We have a laptop with a webcam…It used to be easier when the kids were very little, for some reason. 🤷 *
 
How about a good old fashioned book! There is an awful lot of good Catholic reading out there, and it’s much better for his mind (and soul) than the SI Swimsuit edition.

*He’s not much of a book reader…he enjoys reading the newspaper, and he reads a lot online, but he’s not much of a book reader…we read the Bible together, at times…but, to read on his own, he doesn’t have much time for it, either. See, this is why this is not easy. haha 😛 You know I did think of buying him a telescope…he loves astronomy, and my dd and ds thought that was a good idea. He also loves to cook–like a chef–so maybe something revolving around that. I definitely plan to buy him the Stanley Cup dvd and a tee shirt, however…OUR PENS WON, so…😃

Could buy him a new grill. He has been talking about buying one …not exactly a gift I can hide under the bed or in our bedroom closet. 😛

Newspaper? How bout a subscription to the National Catholic Register? Or First Things Magazine?

Grill - heck, go all out and have the kids get him a Big Green Egg.

How about the original Leatherman multi-tool? My wife gave me one for Christmas 10 years ago and I am never without it. If he has a multi-tool already check out the nifty holsters at Nite-Ize products.

And you cannot go wrong with Mag-Lite flashlights. A father can never have enough flashlights. I mention these two products because of the warranties. 25 years for Leatherman, lifetime warranty for Mag-Lite.

Yes, the Big Green Egg is very expensive. Dad has one, and he wasn’t impressed. My dad and I are big fans of Weber grills. They’re the classic, round black charcoal grills. They hold up very well. My dad grills out probably 3-4 times a week (not an exaggeration), and the little Weber I got him about 3 years ago is still kickin’.

If you or he is more into gas grills, look up the Weber “Q”. It’s portable and uses the small lantern tanks you can buy most places. Great tailgate grill. Roll Tide! You can also hook it up to a standard “Hank Hill” propane tank.
 
I think the Telescope sounds really cool. My wife has always wanted one but it was never a priority gift. It might also be something he could do with the kids!

*Yes, Joe…That is what I’m thinking…it’s a gift he would never ever think to buy for himself. It was funny, the kids asked him…‘daddy, what do you want for Father’s Day?’

"Underwear and socks.’

I heard this, and interjected…‘honey, stop it, we are not buying you underwear and socks for Father’s day.’ :rotfl: Oh my gosh. :p:rolleyes: He laughed. He said, ‘well, they asked.’ 😃

He’s such a wonderful husband and dad…I love that he has such simple tastes. :o

Ok, leaning towards the telescope – and also some NHL Stanley Cup ‘stuff.’

He is a huge history buff too…I mean HUGE. Any thoughts to that, anyone? *

I’m semi-kidding. Even if he doesn’t like to read, depending on his political leanings, how about The Politically Incorrect Guide to US History? It’s short, an easy book to learn from.

If he is a sports fan, which he is, how about a signed puck from his favorite team? Believe it or not, it’s not that expensive. Some players can go for about 30-50 dollars.

Does he like computer games? They’re some GREAT history based computer games.

Depending on the genere of history he likes, there are some great DVDS availible. American History? Thirteen Days, Gods and Generals, the John Adams mini series.

He likes to read history type books, ok I take back that he dislikes reading books, but he doesn’t like novels, that type of thing. I LOVE The Polticially Incorrect guide to History, that sounds right up his alley! I was thinking of getting him Bill O’Reilly’s book…A fresh Bold Piece of Humanity, he said he’d read that book. lol

Do they sell this book everywhere…like Borders, etc? Oh he would really like it! :bounce:*

Hey we just went there recently, and saw the stunt show at Hollywood Studios…I thought it was going to be a real bore, but it was very cool–one of my fave places, I would say now. *
 
You can buy it from billoreilly.com and have it autographed and personalized if you want, but it may not arrive on time. I think it says it takes 2-4 weeks.

oh, not that book-sorry, I meant the other suggestion Raskalking mentions…the history one. I imagine I could find it at Borders. :confused:
