FATIMA, Portugal, JAN. 12, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The church of the Holy Trinity and four statues at the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima were vandalized early Sunday morning.
I really wish that I could be in Fatima in May, when Pope Benedict visits. My wife feels the same way. Maybe by God’s grace we can find a way to do it. Our gaze is fixed there for some reason. Our Lady actually was present there…for our benefit, and it was less than a century ago. The place is idealized in our minds. Can anyone who has been there describe what it was like? Most of us can only dream about it.

It’s possible that extremist Muslims did this because even if they respect Mary, they vandalized the church and the statues of the Popes, not any Marian material.
But either way it is an outrage and if this had been done to a Jewish or Muslim place of worship in Europe you can expect outrage, but as this is Catholic the media will remain quiet.
I HIGHLY doubt Muslims did this. Not even “extremists”.
I would assume the vandalism has more to do with some questionable practices going on there with mixed faith worship which is forbidden in the Bible. Vandalism is usually done by angry teenagers venting frustration.
I think it **really **odd that there are no security cameras or any other type of equiptment which would have given some glimpse of the culprit around the area.
This is the new modern church that was built not too long ago that looks very space age.
I don’t think this has anything to do with hatred towards Catholics in general either.
