You make an important point. I didn’t miss it I imagine others will not. Be patient!
A basic and recognised historic American truth is this:
Fear driven public sentiments seeking security have always resulted in our willingness to accept legislation that removes our own civil rights.
Beginning with the Sedition Act, Lincoln’s suspension of Habeus.
All the way to the Patriot act( and FISA). SO your point fits into the larger need to publically resist this compromise in times where we crave government provided safety.
This because of the second related historical trend. Once given up in these " Acts" the rights are never restored again.
The CIVIL LIBERTIES movement is dedicated to these tests. Due to fear and often stampede mentality, Civil Liberties groups derive the " negative" reputation many seem to have about them. They advocate against the tide.
While I am at it, let me throw in the uniquely American " sayings" about the Civil Liberties protection position.
Example:
A coward dies a thousand times. A brave man but once.
Or
Give me liberty or give me death.
It is a choice. It was with the Patriot Act after 9/11 and it remains. Guess what! The FISA abuses didn’t somehow start with Trump. The Trump case simply had the most scrutiny in history. And even for a President, look how long and how much power was necessary to see in.
Yesterday there was a report out of South Korea about reinfection. If true, this card seems useless
