Favorite Biblical Figure besides Jesus

Who is your favorite Biblical figure besides Jesus. I decided to limit things because I knew if I didn’t, Jesus would almost certainly win by default. So here are my favorites:
  • Peter–He seems to be the most human of the Apostles. Plus, I feel I’d probably screw up almost as much as he did.
  • Mary–When I was little, I thought she was unreachable, but now I realize she also suffered.
  • David–I love those psalms.
 
You can’t help but love them all. In the OT I really like Abraham, Moses, and Isaiah.

The NT biggies are Mary, Joseph, John, Peter & Paul. All of the others are great too.

I can’t pick just one:thumbsup:
 
I have always had sympathy for Ananias, who baptized St Paul, Acts 9:10-17
There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, "Here I am, Lord."11 The Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying,12 and (in a vision) he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay (his) hands on him, that he may regain his sight."13 But Ananias replied, "Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones 4 in Jerusalem.14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call upon your name."15 But the Lord said to him, "Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites,16 and I will show him what he will have to suffer for my name."17 So Ananias went and entered the house; laying his hands on him, he said, “Saul, my brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus who appeared to you on the way by which you came, that you may regain your sight and be filled with the holy Spirit.”

He worries about whether God has really thought this problem all the way through, but he goes anyway.
 
After Mary, St John the Apostle & Evangelist. Who recovered his courage and supported Mary at Calvery
 
From the OT I really like Joseph, Moses, Elijah, Gideon, Samson, David, Daniel, and Hosea…poor guy, had to marry a prostitute of Baal.

From the NT Peter, Paul and Mary…and John…and Matthew, and John the Baptist :o

Sorry, I couldn’t pick just one either. If they got charisma, then they make my list 😃
 
Mary - I feel close to her in my adulthood because of her suffering… and my own. She’s always there for me!
 
Two Marys:
  1. Mary Magdalene - for her life and repentence of sin.
  2. The Blessed Virgin Mary - because of her own faih in God and her role as Mother to our Lord Jesus Christ.
 
One of the most powerful passages in Acts is when Stephen the first Chritian martyr bears witness, “But he (Stephen) full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, 'Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God” (Acts 7:55-56).
Makes me look pretty pathetic?:o
 
Moses in the OT is a favorite; after Mary, Peter in the NT.

What I really like contemplating, is personally meeting all of them in heaven - getting to know them one on one, asking them questions about their earthly experiences. Can you imagine!

Queen Esther. What agony she went through to save her people. She didn’t want all that responsibility and feared she would die in the attempt, but she put all her trust in God and went ahead. She did what she knew she had to do, using her brains as well as her faith to do it. Gotta love that!
 
I am also currently re-reading the story of Joseph the son of Jacob. What a character and what a story

I like John the apostle. He was a hard headed tough guy (a son of thunder) who became the apostle of love after he met and came to know Jesus. He went from being an arrogant bully to being humble and loving, and Jesus entrusted the care of His mother Mary to John. John also wrote the most profound Gospel and Epistles plus the Book of Revelation. John is proof of how God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are able to transform a person through an intimate relationship with God.

I also like Paul. He went from being a persecutor of Christians to a steadfast martyr for the Christian faith after he met the risen Lord Jesus. I pray to St. Paul so I may have his courage for the faith.

The Gospel of John is one of the best pieces of writing ever put on paper. I know he was called one of the sons of thunder but I don’t think that he was hard headed tough guy even before his discipleship.

Well, I think being a son of thunder beforehand pretty much explains what he was like. But God had another plan for him. John did learn humility and love, and became the apostle of love after Jesus changed him.
