I chose "…“Away in a manger”…It is the first one I learned and the first one I taught my kids…so it’s extra special. 🙂

Awww, mine isn’t on the list…

I LOVE Carol of the Bells!!! Absolutely love that song! I think it’s because I’ve always like high tempo songs, don’t really care for those slow poke songs. 😛

One of my favorite carols is The Huron Carol. It was written for the Hurons by the Jesuit missionary / martyr, St. Jean de Brebeuf, later murdered by the Iroguois when they captured the Mission of St. Ignace.

Below are two links. The first is to an incredible You Tube recording sung in Huron, French and English. The second is the Wikipedia page for St. Jean de Brebeuf.

Darn the poll is closed. 😦

My FAV is Oh Holy Night… brings tears to my eyes every time it hits “Fall on your knees…” :o

WOW, that’s a way prettier (and more theologically correct) version of that hymn than I’ve heard before. 👍

jmcrae,
Yes, and culturally-correct too, way better than the big-choir-with-ten-part-harmonies versions.

This song has a special meaning for me. I’ve was always fascinated by the carol but didn’t know it had been written by a saint. Since childhood I’ve been a little miffed that that there’s no saint’s feast on my birthday. I was determined to find one somewhere and started scouring the internet. Turned out that St. Jean de Brebeuf’s date of death is that day, but his feast is another day commemorating the group of Jesuit missionaries who were martyred. So now I have a saint on my birthday who just happened to write one of my favorite carols!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT AND EVERY SONG THERE IS TO SING AND THE GIVING, THE LOVING, THE PEACE, THE EXTRA HELP FOR THE NEEDY!! I LOVE GOD AND I LOVE BEING A CHILD OF GOD!! 😃

sorry got a little excited there…

Hodie Christus Natus Est – we sang this song in my public high schol chior long before I was Cathoilc. It is beautiful.

O Come O Come Emmanuel

So I’m the only guy that likes First Noel???
Apparently so. 🤷

I don’t like it because I had a friend named Noel when I was five who hated the song because it had his name in it, and in sympathy with him, I decided to hate it, too. Since then I have never found a reason to like it.

(That’s perfectly rational, isn’t it? 😃 )

Well that ain’t a reason NOT to like FIRST NOEL the most dominate song ever of the Christmas Season, especially when they blow the trumpets and stuff at Midnight Mass and fire up the choir, and proceed in with incense going.

Y’all hush a minute and listen to me sing it-

The First Noel, the Angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel!

:tiphat: Thank ya very much.

Now how ya reckon that carol ain’t #1??

What about those 2 jokers that voted for 2 Kings?? Where’d they go? See when I started singin First Noel, they knew better then to even show up.

Little Drummer Boy is my favorite, but there are so many good ones.
I always loved this song, until a co-worker of my husband told us how her kids sang it when they were little, when it was time to make the drum sound, rump pum pum pum…they sang, rubber bum, bum…not on purpose, they were little, but I can’t help but giggle a little now when I hear it.
