Other.

My all-time favorite is Pearsall’s arrangement of “In Dulci Jubilo”. I was blessed to sing this with a chamber choir on Christmas Eve, 2004. We sang it a capella from the choir loft and I had chills up my spine the entire time. It’s serious and joyful at the same time, which IMO sums up Christmas Eve very nicely.

Amazon will let you listen to a preview here.

Oh, and I agree with jmcrae on Boney M’s “Mary’s Boy Child”. That is amazing. 👍

Seeker Jan, a harpist / singer named Therese Shroder-Sheker also made an absolutely beautiful, but very different, recording of In Dulci Jubilo. I think it was on her Windham Hill Album, The Queen’s Minstrel, which was dedicated to Mary.

Well, I voted for “O Holy Night” but it is actually my second favorite…

What happened to “What Child Is This”??? That is my most favorite Christmas Carol of all!

.
Me too! What Child is This # 1, O Holy Night # 2.

What Child is This and The Little Drummer Boy – so neither of my favorites were on the poll.😦

The poll only let’s a guy choose 10 options. Is not drummer not somewhat recent?

I know it’s a poll, and specifically dealing with traditional carols, but the one that really always slams me right in the heart and the gut is “Father Christmas” by The Kinks. It truly brings home the message of desperation and genuine charity like no other, completely taking the commerciality out of the season, however roughly.

But some people need that smack upside the head to see, and weep, clearly.

I just shut my eyes and picked one as I love all the old Carols, most make me cry (my gift of tears is always very evident thru Advent and the Christmas season)

My favorite listed was We Three Kings, however, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Good King Wencelaus (Yeah, I know it’s technically for the feast of St. Stephen, but its still great!)

Oh come oh come Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you oh Israel

If anything makes me ‘get’ Christmas, it’s that song.

I also love O Holy Night but I really like “Joy to the World” too. Another favourite is The Wexford Carol, an Irish Christmas Carol that dates from the 12th century… Here is the first verse:
Good people all, this Christmas time, Consider well and bear in mind What our good God for us has done In sending his beloved son With Mary holy we should pray, To God with love this Christmas Day In Bethlehem upon that morn, There was a blessed Messiah born freeirishmusic.com/2001/11/enniscorthy-carol-good-people-all-by.shtml

I love everything, I think, especially O Come O Come Immanuel …and Mannheim Steamroller… :rotfl:

What Child Is This is up there for me, too. But O Holy Night is my favourite of these ten carols.

Amen! That is the most beautiful Christmas song to me. It gives me shivers every time. I could gladly sing it year round.

Ooh, I remember that one! My father used to sing in a boy’s choir, and they did that every year, he said. He used to play it for us on his old record player while we were decorating the Christmas tree when we were little.

My favorite is Adestes Fidelis (O Come All Ye Faithful), and yes, I do like it in Latin. I also like O Holy Night in French and Silent Night in German.

Yep. It’s lovely in English, but it’s tremendous in Latin. We sing this as the processional for all Christmas Masses at my parish, using all four verses in English and then repeating the first verse but in Latin. I swear, the Latin verse gets the loudest participation. 🙂

Then you would love it on Mannheim Steamroller. It’s in Latin, and it begins and ends a capella.

Bing Crosby may have had his faults, but he taught Americans to sing it in Latin through his Christmas albums!😃 A couple years ago, I taught a bunch of third graders to sing that and “Marshmallow World” for the Christmas program. We wore caps, scarves and mittens over our good clothes. We made fake snowballs out of cotton during Technology class (Isn’t that what IT class is for?), and after the last, “In Winter, it’s a marshmallow world” they threw the snowballs at the audience, folded their hands, and went right into “Adeste Fidelis…” looking very innocent.

OK, normally thing song would not inspire tears…but I miss my husband so much and I have a feeling I’ll be playing this daily until he is home safe and sound:(
Aww… I hear you. Today was a kind of weepy day for me, missing my babe. 😦 Is Feanaro coming home for Christmas? Hope so.

I’m supposed to go visit my guy in May - he called me today and asked if I could possibly visit for Christmas, even if it was just for four days. 😦 I don’t have time off except Christmas day. I wish I could say yes, especially when he sounds so sad about it.

I admit, I’ve had this Christmas song (which is SO not a carol) in my head for a while.

Yes, he is supposed to be. He has a flight home on the 19th and I pray pray pray there are no weather disasters that would keep him from flying:gopray2: … then he has to fly back on the 11th of January. Now, if the airports were** to**** have close THEN, I’d be fine with that, lol. **

That is so sad for you. I assume there is no way he can come see you?

Lyrics are good but I just don’t like mariah 🤷:o
