Gosh! Latin hymns that are suitable for a wedding and that everyone can sing, but not plainchant. I think you will struggle but I wish you luck. Whilst I can understand the desire for a traditional wedding it’s important to remember that hymns were not traditionally sung at mass, and the latin hymns that we do have were written for benediction and devotions rather than mass. When hymns were introduced at low mass in the 1950s these were vernacular hymns.

The only ones I might suggest are Ubi Caritas and Adoro te devote. Some may know the former but I doubt many will know the latter. What mass setting will you be using?

I don’t know about “everyone can sing.” That’s a pretty tall order.

I’m fond of Biebl’s arrangement of Ave Maria as an entrance hymn. And Casciolini’s arrangement of Panis Angelicus as an offertory hymn. But those are both very technically precise, with Panis Angelicus requiring I think at least four and Biebl’s Ave Maria needing at least 8.

Those are very difficult.

I have to find an old hymnal. I know that we sung hymns in Latin. I just don’t have an old hymnal and I don’t remember them off the top of my head. By the time I came around, most had been translated into English. Keep thinking and thanks.

There is also an online resource that provides links to the individual hymn books and the lists contained therein that I have been trying to find for you. But as far as I remember the Latin section of these hymnals had headings which made clear that the hymns should only be used for Divine Office, Benediction and Devotions with a few hymns for Christmas, Easter and Corpus Christi.

In the meantime the attached on the history of Catholic hymnody, written in 1916 is an interesting read!:

I think that the Lambillotte Panis Angelicus might be a good choice as the melody is simple, beautiful, and intuitive. For those who are singing in Latin for the First time it may be a bit easier to follow than some of the other lovely versions of the hymn. ( the Cassiolini and Franck versions are so beautiful, but I wonder if they might be a bit of a challenge being sung for the first time by your guests?)

Perhaps your organist could go over the songs while people are being seated? A bit of familiarization with the tunes might be helpful.
The key, if everyone is going to sing, will be limited range, simple melodies and preferably something that will feel somewhat familiar to the community. It’s too bad you can’t sing 'Adeste Fideles". We can all sing that one:D:thumbsup:

Well, they could…they just need to change a word or two.

“Yea Lord we great thee. Both **that **happy morning”, for example.

More Hymns for the daughter’s wedding!
I ran your request by my music-major parents brother J.R., and mom suggested O Sanctissima. Familiar melody, doable range, lovely lyrics and many will have sung the English translation.👍
