Favorite Lies about the Catholic Church?

I know, it’s a bit of a weird topic, but one that is interesting. When I say “favorite” I am really meaning the most truly absurd and ridiculous attempts to attack the church, I just find it interesting . . . 😃 I’ll start:
  1. That all priests are pedophiles. Most priests are in-fact not pedophiles, if I remember correctly they did a little study on this and in Europe Catholic priests are accountable to about 0.1% of sexual abuse amongst the clergy(meaning all religions) and in America it is even less with 0.03%(I believe).
  2. That the Jesuits planned the assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II, in an attempt to gain Muslim converts to supply the main force in the Vatican Army. Can’t really say much on it other than it sounds completely absurd.
  3. That the Vatican Bank killed Pope John Paul I. . . 🤷
 
The most perplexing one that I’ve heard/read came form a guy that, after reading the ECF’s form the second century…recognizing that their writings were obviously “Catholic” and nothing less…he concluded this was “just evidence of how early the catholic demons had infiltrated the true Church”. 🤷
 
About 20 years ago I was sitting in a class where the teacher was teaching that the RCC was the anti-Christ. I got so angry that I got up, walked out and sought out the pastor. I then gave him an ear full. Needless to say that teacher never taught again. I’m not Catholic, but I have no use for those who bash the RCC. I’ve never understood it. This is not the Middle Ages. I also get tired of hearing that the Catholic Church “worships” Mary. I’ve prayed the Rosary often enough, read enough and have known enough Catholics over the years to understand the difference between worship and honor. So, from someone who is not a Catholic I give you kudos for taking this rot. 👍

Just remembered another: The reason Catholics ate fish on Fridays was because some pope had a brother who was a fisherman, and the pope wanted to send more business his brother’s way.
 
That we “Worship” Mary and the Saints, and also that we pray to images and statues, i have also heard from one of my Litheran friends that the church is the whore of Babylon from Revelation. Another one ive heard is that Pope Pius XII was secretly a supporter of Fascism! Some people, i tell you!
 
How about an historical non-fiction documentation to clarify this subject? Read “The Two Babylons” for objective enlightenment.

As a new Catholic I really appreciate your openness. When I was a Protestant I was like you, I never had any anti-Catholilc feelings or impulses even though my late mother was very anti-Catholic.

To clarify what? That the church is or isn’t the whore?:confused: “The Two Babylons” is grossly misrepresenting Catholicism I just read the summary and facepalmed for even bothering to look it up… Papal worship??? Really??? Please show me a Catholic who worships the Pope cuz all the Catholics I know worship the Holy Trinity… geez those God worshipping Catholics 🤷
