Anyone have any favorites?

I’d list Teorema, the Mirror, 8 1/2. Possibly my favorite though is Zabriskie Point. Whatever you think of the movie the ending is magnificent.

And Beau Travail.

I love the ending of Paul, Apostle of Christ. Very moving and leaves me in tears every time I watch it.

Casablanca. But since it’s the best movie ever made, of course it has a great ending: all the other parts are good too.

And I was blessed with a grandmother who taught me what Vichy water was at like age 11. The ending scene where Claude Rains throws it away is well done and overshadowed by the last line.

There have been several over the years but my youngest son and I currently agree on the last minute of High Plains Drifter. Of course one must watch the entire movie to place it in context but it is, I feel, a truly magnificent climax of story, cinematography, and audio score.

Here’s my short list, about a half-dozen altogether

Best of all: The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Nearly as good: The Sting.

And a few others: Psycho, Charade, Funeral in Berlin, Keeping Mum, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Ruthless People.

Casablanca…the greatest film of all time.
The Natural
The Searchers
Shane

You list the Searchers and say Casablanca is the best movie ever made. For shame. 😉

Whoa! How come I’ve never heard of it before? Two minutes of the same house getting blown up from all angles, and then… what the… that’s GOTTA be Pink Floyd!! THAT movie is on my list.

Inglorious Basterds ends well. I know I have a better pick, but right now I’m drawing a blank.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is high on the list, I second that one.

Extra positive feature, most of the movie was shot at the Biltmore castle. If you have never been there, put it on your bucket list. 🙂
I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve been to the Biltmore twice and it’s still on my bucket list. It’s amazing how much house you could buy with $200,000,000 in the 1800’s. Totally overwhelming, and if you’re a plant junkie like me you simply MUST visit the gardens. To stand under that giant Katsura tree is worth the price of admission alone.

The family still lives close by, I have relatives who are acquainted with them and by all accounts they’re excellent, friendly, down-to-earth people.
