The rather touching ending of Citizen Kane, when we finally discover who or what Rosebud is, is a favorite of mine, apart from the movie as a whole.
I see the criticism, and yeah, that scene was pretty gross. My beef with Kings writing is that it tends to be bloated. He really needs to trim the fat sometimes. Also, he’s way too eager to insert pop culture references into his writing. I assume he’s trying to make it sound current but comes off as forced occasionally. That said, he’s fully capable of brilliance sometimes. My issue with King isn’t the movies; it’s with some of his writing. The man IMHO has the greatest imagination I can imagine - he’s been cranking out the most remarkable stories for decades. My issue is that I think he often dilutes them with some gratuitious sex and lurid stuff. For example was the “It” novel any better because of the sex (involving teens no less)? I doubt it. I wonder if in 100 years King will be less Mark Twain and more Horatio Alger.
Well if we’re gonna go full-on Heston: Planet of the Apes (1968)Soylent Green- is people! (Actually while the ending is phenomenal, it’s completely overshadowed by the death scene of Saul)
