Sheesh, looks awfully sad.

There was a Christmas animated story on TV as a kid, about Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey who carries Mary to Bethlehem (back when Christmas stories could mention Jesus). That one’s so sad I swear it’s almost crossing the border into child abuse to allow kids to watch it.

There’s a lot in Shawshank that’s really good.

I have mixed feelings about Steven King but Shawshank’s a high point. His miniseries Storm of the Century I found absolutely terrifying, maybe the most terrifying thing I’ve ever watched.

That sounds interesting.
Actually,
Summary
The ending goes further. In addition to being flogged and bearing what could be described as the sins of humanity, he is finally shot in the side by a border guard. As he bleeds to death he wanders the hills, finally finding a flock of sheep. He sits in the middle of them as they gather around.
Its totally an allegory of Christ.

Actually, isn’t everything that’s an allegory of Christ, sad?

Want a surprisingly deep film, with positive message, allegorical about Christ? Harvey Keitel in Bad Lieutenant. Too bad it’s so horrific as to be unwatchable by like 75% of the viewing public.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve been to the Biltmore twice and it’s still on my bucket list. It’s amazing how much house you could buy with $200,000,000 in the 1800’s. Totally overwhelming, and if you’re a plant junkie like me you simply MUST visit the gardens. To stand under that giant Katsura tree is worth the price of admission alone.
We went there many times. Even during the Christmas holidays, when every room had a different style of decoration. But my favorite is still the servants’ quarters.

And, of course the gardens! Unfortunately the trees in front of the house collected some disease, and had to be cut down. It will be about a century before it will be similar again. Very sad.

Dude dude dude! I love Bad Lieutenant! If you haven’t seen the Addiction by the same director please do so.

Keitel is one of those guys where EVERY MOVIE he makes is immediately wonderful. I mean every movie. He was awesome in Reservoir Dogs - as in stole the show good.

Jim Caviezel’s “Frequency”. After much drama and suspense, the fun ending gets me every time.

After thinking about it a moment, I have to say Aliens is one of my favorite endings. I recently watched a YouTube video about “how to sequel like James Cameron”. It covers both Aliens and Terminator 2. The video points out that in Aliens, Cameron raises the stakes from Ridley Scott’s original. In the finale, instead of fighting just to save herself, Ripley is fighting to protect her “adopted daughter”, Newt.

The ending to T2 is pretty good too. 🙂
